Queens Adds 6-10 Center Sawyer Mayhugh to 2024 Signing Class

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte head men's basketball coach Grant Leonard is pleased to welcome Sawyer Mayhugh to the 2024 signee class on Tuesday afternoon. The 6-10 center comes to the Queen City from Massachusetts.

"Sawyer is a very unique talent for the ASUN Conference," said coach Leonard. "Sawyer possesses true size, weight, wingspan, athleticism, and skill. As Sawyer gains experience and confidence, he will be one of the toughest matchups in the league."

Prior to committing to UMass, Mayhugh played for Expression Elite EYBL and Brewster Academy. With Brewster, Mayhugh was the MVP of NEPSAC 2023 as he averaged over 20.0 points per game. Mayhugh helped Brewster win the 2022 NEPSAC Championship. Against IMG at the 2022 Basketbull Hoopsfest, Mayhugh turned in 21 points and six rebounds. Earlier in the summer circuit, Mayhugh turned in a 14 point and 13 rebound double-double against Team CP3. Mayhugh brings a strong frame that can finish in the paint but can also stretch the floor and shoot from the perimeter.

"Joining Queens Men's Basketball means becoming a part of a hardworking community that values excellence on and off the court," said Mayhugh. "I'm excited to join and not just grow as an athlete, but as a person as well."

Coming out of Brewster Academy, Mayhugh held offers from Siena, Northeastern, Bryant, Miami (OH), Boston, Massachusetts, and Gardner-Webb.

The Royals are coming off their second season in Division 1 which included their second straight ASUN Tournament appearance. Queens took down FGCU in the opening round of the ASUN Tournament before falling to the eventual tournament champion in Stetson. The Royals faced a challenging schedule which included Elite Eight opponents in #9 Duke and #14 Clemson. Despite the tough slate, Queens ranked 10th in the country in adjusted tempo and averaged 80.1 points per game which was fourth-most in the ASUN.
