Greetings.

I'd like to compare "to get rid of" and "to shed (in the meaning of 'to get rid of')".

from a dictionary:
(1a) Try and get rid of your visitors before I get there.
(2a) The problem is getting rid of nuclear waste.
(3a) I can't get rid of this headache.
(4a) We got rid of all the old furniture.

my variants:
(1b) Try and shed your visitors before I get there.
(2b) The problem is shedding nuclear waste.
(3b) I can't shed this headache.
(4b) We shed all the old furniture.

Which of the b-variants are correct and which are not and why?
What's the difference between the a- and b- variants?

Thanks.
