Glenn Jacobs was no match for Joey “Jaws” Chestnut.

Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs (Kane) competed in the Ultimate Bologna Showdown over the weekend. The contest, hosted in conjunction with Major League Eating, saw famed professional eater Joey Chestnut emerge as the winner.

Chestnut, who won the last 8 consecutive Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating contests (and 16 of the last 17 overall), set a new world record by eating 14 pounds of bologna in 8 minutes.

Mayor Jacobs said he consumed an “impressive” two pounds of bologna, although he noted Chestnut might not consider it to be a big number.  Jacobs’ total netted him a tie for 11th place in a 13-competitor field.

Jacobs later shared that event organizers have agreed to match the amount of bologna eaten and will donate 71.5 pounds of food to local food shelters.

Never say never

Glenn Jacobs recently spoke with David Gornoski about his political run and in-ring career.

Gornoski asked about Jacobs’ in-ring career and if it’s the last fans have seen of him in the ring. Kane’s last in-ring appearance came at WWE Royal Rumble 2021, but he stopped competing full-time in 2018. He has made other sporadic (non-physical) appearances in the years since, but has he ruled out a return to wrestling?

“[I’m] probably not getting in the ring. I watch now and I’m amazed at how athletic everybody is,” Jacobs explained. “I don’t think my body could take that kind of punishment anymore. [laughs] But we always say ‘never say never’, so I leave the door open to many different things.”
