Lucknow Super Giants clinched a triumph over Mumbai Indians by an 18-run margin, securing two crucial points despite being out of contention for the playoffs. Mumbai Indians, however, faced a daunting challenge after the dismissal of Rohit Sharma, struggling to find momentum in their chase. Apart from a notable innings from Naman Dhir in the middle, no other batsman seemed capable of chasing down the target. The disappointing campaign for MI in IPL 2024 culminated with a defeat against LSG.

The Mumbai Indians commenced their chase with Rohit Sharma and Dewald Brevis at the crease. Sharma seized the opportunity early on, launching two consecutive sixes in the second over. Despite a rain interruption with Mumbai Indians at 33/0 in 3.5 overs, Sharma continued to take on the LSG bowlers upon the match's resumption. His aggressive strokes propelled MI to 53/0 by the end of the powerplay after six overs, with Sharma reaching his fifty in just 28 balls.

However, the momentum suffered a setback as Brevis departed for 28, followed by Suryakumar Yadav falling for a duck to Krunal Pandya. At the halfway mark, Mumbai Indians stood at 92/2 after ten overs. Rohit Sharma's departure at 68 runs, courtesy of Ravi Bishnoi, dealt a significant blow to MI's chase. Although Hardik Pandya showed promise initially, he succumbed to a bouncer from Mohsin after scoring 16 runs.

LSG's Ravi Bishnoi continued to wreak havoc, claiming another wicket as Wadhera departed after adding just one run to the tally. Ultimately, Lucknow Super Giants emerged victorious, overcoming Mumbai Indians by 18 runs in a thrilling encounter.

FIRST INNINGS

Mumbai Indians opted to field, Lucknow Super Giants post commanding 214/6 in the first innings.

In a high-stakes encounter, Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to field first against Lucknow Super Giants. LSG faced an early setback as Thushara trapped Devdutt Padikkal LBW in the very first over. Despite this setback, Marcus Stoinis and KL Rahul steadied the ship, only for Stoinis to depart for 28 within the powerplay.

At the end of the initial six overs, LSG reached 49/2. Their progress was halted further when Hooda fell to Piyush Chawla after scoring just 11 runs. However, Nicholas Pooran's explosive knock, comprising two consecutive sixes off Tendulkar, saw him race to his fifty in just 19 balls. Together with Rahul, Pooran accelerated the innings, adding 29 runs in the next 15 balls.

Pooran's departure for a blistering 75 and Arshad Khan's quick exit put a dent in LSG's momentum. The real blow came when KL Rahul, who also notched up a fifty in 37 balls, was dismissed by Chawla. Ayush Badoni's brief cameo of 22 runs off 10 balls in the final over propelled LSG to a formidable total of 214/6 at the end of their allotted 20 overs.
