The Luxembourg City council announced plans to invest in cycling infrastructure, with more safe bike spaces, as well as a number of spring and summer events.

Over the next few weeks, new bike racks will be set up in 36 spots around the city, creating nearly 250 additional spaces and enabling around 1,700 bicycles to be stored safely in the capital. "We've noticed more and more people wanting to visit the city by bike," alderman Maurice Bauer commented.

The additional bike racks will complement the expansion of the capital's cycle paths over the last few years.

Increase in postal votes

More than 44,000 voters have registered for the upcoming European elections in Luxembourg City, 9,000 of whom are residents holding another EU passport. The postal vote option continues to be a great success.

In the last election, around 5,900 people opted to vote by post - this time, 9,700 voters have signed up for the postal vote. The vast majority, 8,400, are city residents. Just 1,250 postal votes will come from abroad, including 44 from Brazil, said mayor Lydie Polfer.

The majority of non-Luxembourgish voters on the electoral register are French, Portuguese and Italian. All in all, the number of non-Luxembourgers has also increased compared to the 2019 elections, rising from 5,700 to nearly 9,000.

Further events around the Gëlle Fra monument

Following the Octave market, another attraction is planned to take place at the Place de la Constitution, recently converted from a car park. "Fréijoer op der Gëlle Fra" ("Spring at the Golden Lady") will run until mid-June, offering a number of games, a small stage, and the City Skyliner, offering views of the city from a 70-metre-high platform.

"There will also be opportunities for food and drink, and a terrace on which to hopefully enjoy the warm weather and the wonderful views of the city and the Pétrusse valley," commented Polfer.

In the summer, the capital plans to open a mini-beach at the Place de la Constitution.

Football fever in Luxembourg

The capital is also set to open public viewing spaces for this year's upcoming European Football Championship, which kicks off in mid-June. The Glacis car park will host a 50-square-metre screen, displaying all matches from the quarter-finals onwards, starting on 29 June.
