  2. A look back at tonight's ceremony

The TV Baftas Awards ceremony has now ended, and all the awards have been given out. Here's a look back at what happened:

    • The biggest winners were Top Boy, Happy Valley and The Sixth Commandment - which all won two awards each
    • Top Boy won the coveted best drama award, Sarah Lancashire won best actress for her performance in Happy Valley while Timothy Spall got best actor for his role in The Sixth Commandment
    • The prestigious Bafta Fellowship award was presented to Baroness Floella Benjamin for her contribution to television and Lorraine Kelly was presented with a special award for her 40 years in TV
    • Several actors acknowledged the war in Gaza during the night - Brian Cox, Steve Coogan and Khalid Abdalla were spotted sporting red pins calling for a ceasefire
    • The ceremony included a tribute to figures from the world of television who died this past year, including Sir Michael Parkinson, Ray Stevenson, Benjamin Zephaniah, Annie Nightingale and Matthew Perry
    • And finally, comedian Joe Lycett took home the award for best entertainment performance while dressed as Queen Elizabeth I

  3. Watch: 'We have to keep celebrating women in comedy'

Gbemisola Ikemelo won the award for the best female performance in a comedy, for her performance in Black Ops.

"We have to keep celebrating women in comedy," she tells the BBC after accepting her award.

Being at the Bafta Awards means "we're sort of playing at the highest level in our careers, and that's something to be celebrated", she adds.

  4. Eurovision 2023 the overall winner of Craft and TV Bafta awards

    Joe McFadden

    Live reporter

You'd be forgiven for thinking Happy Valley, Top Boy and The Sixth Commandment were tonight's big winners, taking home two awards each.

But, when the tallies are counted up to include the Craft Awards too, BBC One's coverage of Eurovision 2023 was actually the big winner with three trophies.

Tonight's ceremony wasn't the only Bafta awards show highlighting the best British television has to offer. Two weeks ago, the Bafta TV Craft Awards took place. They honour the more technical side of television, with awards like costume design, sound and casting being handed out.

BBC One's Eurovision Song Contest 2023 received two coveted Bafta trophies at those awards: multi-camera director and entertainment craft team respectively, which, when added to its win tonight for live event coverage, mean it is the overall winner of the 2024 TV Baftas, with a total of three awards.

Audience favourites like HBO's The Last of Us and Apple TV's Slow Horses also received two craft awards but went home empty-handed in tonight's ceremony, making Eurovision the only nominee to be awarded on both nights.

Click here to see the full list of winners and nominees from both ceremonies.

  5. Watch: 'How did that happen? It's gone by in a flash,' says Lorraine Kelly

Lorraine Kelly spoke to the BBC after receiving a special award for her decades-long television career.

"How did that happen? It's gone by in a flash," she says, remarking on her 40-year career.

  6. Top Boy and Happy Valley triumph at Baftas

    Steven McIntosh

    Entertainment reporter at the Baftas

The final seasons of Top Boy and Happy Valley were among the big winners at the Bafta TV Awards on Sunday.

Top Boy, which first aired on Channel 4 but was revived by Netflix, won the prestigious best drama prize.

It held off competition from Happy Valley, but the BBC drama won best actress for Sarah Lancashire as well as the memorable moment prize.

There were also special prizes for daytime TV star Lorraine Kelly and Baroness Floella Benjamin.

  9. It's party time!

    Leisha Santorelli

Reporting from the Royal Festival Hall

The ceremony at Royal Festival Hall has finished but for its many beautiful, glammed up attendees the night is just beginning.

They are all sitting down for a quick dinner before dancing and the after-parties start for winners, nominees and guests. It's a clear, summery evening.

With temperatures hitting the high twenties earlier, many are making a beeline for the bar to get a nice, cool drink.

  10. Benjamin 'a voice for change' - Prince of Wales

As we announced earlier, Baroness Floella Benjamin received tonight's most prestigious award - the Bafta Fellowship.

The Prince of Wales surprised Benjamin by appearing in a video before she was presented with the award.

In the video, Prince William highlight's her achievements throughout her career, saying she has "touched the lives of millions" and calling her a "a beacon of representation and a voice for change".

Quote Message: Baroness Floella Benjamin, you remind us of the power of empathy, compassion, and action to effect positive change and I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you. I’m thrilled that you are receiving the Bafta Fellowship this evening, and I send my heartfelt congratulations. from Prince of Wales

  11. Analysis

The Crown walks home empty handed

    Leisha Santorelli

    Reporting from Royal Festival Hall

Happy Valley, The Sixth Commandment and Top Boy were all among the front runners, so these shows taking home two gongs each shows the pull of gripping realistic dramas.

It's been a good night for the BBC - it produced or commissioned all these shows.

What was surprising was The Crown walking home completely empty-handed despite all its nominations.

Another surprise was Class Act winning best international TV show. It beat some heavy hitters including Beef, The Bear and Succession - which have all done well at American television awards.

  12. Top Boy, Happy Valley, and The Sixth Commandment are tonight's biggest winners

Jasmine Jobson posing with her Bafta
Image caption: Jasmine Jobson won the award for Supporting Actress category for her performance in Top Boy

Let's take stock of tonight's biggest winners now that the awards have all been given out.

Top Boy, Happy Valley, and The Sixth Commandment all won two awards each.

Succession, which was nominated for five Baftas, ended up winning one.

Read the full list of winners here.

  13. The show is over, but the broadcast is still on

So the action has come to an end at Royal Festival Hall in London.

However, our coverage is still going. The ceremony is being aired on BBC One and BBC iPlayer until 21:00 BST, and you can also follow along on the stream at the top of this page.

  14. And that’s a wrap

    Noor Nanji

Culture reporter at Royal Festival Hall

The final awards have been handed out, the champagne glasses are being emptied, and the stars are off to celebrate/commiserate* (*delete as appropriate).

Rob Beckett signs off saying it’s been an absolute pleasure to host the event. Co-presenter Romesh Ranganathan jokes, “I wouldn’t go that far.”

What’s next? After parties for some, at various venues across the city. For others, perhaps a cold shower and bed. It’s been a long, hot evening.

Thanks for tuning into our coverage and congratulations to all the winners!

  15. The final award goes to...

The coveted leading actress award, presented by Hollywood star Jeff Goldblum, goes to Sarah Lancashire.

She played the fierce detective Catherine Cawood in BBC series Happy Valley, which drew to a dramatic close last year with its third season.

She struggles to start her speech through her crying.

"It's an honour, thank you," she says, and acknowledges her fellow nominees.

She thanks the BBC for "giving this very British drama a very British home."

  16. Last up tonight is the award for best leading actress

    The nominees are:

    • Anjana Vasan, Demon 79 (Black Mirror) - Netflix
    • Anne Reid, The Sixth Commandment - BBC One
    • Bella Ramsey, The Last of Us - Sky Atlantic

    • Sarah Lancashire, Happy Valley - BBC One

  17. Penultimate award won by...

Timothy Spall for his role as Peter Farquhar in The Sixth Commandment.

Timothy captured Peter's life as he was conned by criminal Ben Field.

"Look it up on IMDB and you'll see who was involved," Peter says as he opens his speech on stage.

"The reality is sometimes you get a chance to play people that have had a terrible thing happen to them and all they wanted was love and it's a beautiful thing to be able to tell a story about something like that.

"This is a story about many things... terrible crimes... but it's also about love."

  18. Who will win best lead actor?

    Here are the nominees:

    • Brian Cox, Succession - Sky Atlantic

Image caption: Dressed as Queen Elizabeth I, Joe Lycett accepts the award for entertainment performance

Joe Lycett for his show Late Night Lycett.

He takes to the stage in his silver Queen Elizabeth I costume.

"I lost a bet," he says, acknowledging the outfit elephant in the room.
