Seth Meyers Renews Deal To Host NBC’s ‘Late Night’ Through 2028; Extends Overall Deal With Universal Studio Group

Fresh from skewering his employer, Seth Meyers has been rewarded with a new contract at NBC.

Meyers will continue to host Late Night with Seth Meyers through 2028 and has extended his overall deal with Universal Studio Group.

It comes three years after NBC struck a deal with the former SNL star and head writer to renew the show through 2025.

It means that there will be stability across late-night on NBC until at least 2026 after Jimmy Fallon extended his contract to host The Tonight Show in 2021.

Meyers is the latest late-night host to strike a new deal; John Oliver struck a deal in December to continue hosting Last Week Tonight through 2026, Stephen Colbert closed a new three-year deal for The Late Show on CBS last year and Jimmy Kimmel inked a three-year contract with ABC to keep hosting his eponymous show in 2022.

As part of the agreement, Meyers’ production company Sethmaker Shoemeyers, which he runs with Late Night showrunner Mike Shoemaker, will produce content across NBCUniversal platforms after extending its deal with the studio.

Meyers recently celebrated his 10^th anniversary on the show and has filmed over 1,500 episodes since February 24, 2014.

Meyers joked that he has had the same NBCUniversal photo ID since 2001 when he joined SNL. “I just don’t want to take a new ID photo,” he told Deadline. “I look at the old one and I think I still look like that. But the minute I see that second photo…”

Joking aside, he said that hosting Late Night with Seth Meyers for ten years has been a “real trip”. He said that he thinks of his career in five-year chunks.

He told Deadline that one of the reasons he didn’t get the same seven-year itch that the likes of The Late Late Show’s James Corden and The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah got was that his seven years came up during the pandemic, which itself was a “creative” reset for the show.

“I am not in any way, shape, or form bored with doing this, mostly because it’s constantly changing and you can try new things, thanks to the luxury of hours you can fill in a week. There’s always room for reinvention,” he added.

The show, which airs at 12:35am, is produced by Universal Television and Broadway Video. Lorne Michaels is exec producer and Shoemaker is producer.
