Friday Arena Chat Thread
'Magic bleeds into real life. With Magic, I was mainly being driven by the idea that, if people could collect their own cards, there would be a huge amount of variety to the game. In fact, one way I viewed it was that it was like designing a game for a vast audience, dealing out the cards to everybody instead of designing a bunch of little games.' - Richard Garfield, Creator of Magic: The Gathering

Today’s adventure with variance for OTJ draft…
I drafted a sweet WU deck with three Stoic Sphinx and went 0-3 with never seeing a sphinx until the third game when I drew two of them, but only had 6 plains and 1 island in play and they just rotted in my hand.
Immediately fired up another draft and the first game I Thoughtseized opponent on T1, played Deepmuck Desperado on T3, milled them for six before they found an answer, to which they promptly got Mana Drained when they tried to cast it.
This draft format is bonkers and crazy fun if you manage to stay tilt-free.
Oof, that first draft sounds really depressing
Very true, sadly that’s hard as it’s an incredibly tilt-inducing format for MTGA drafting.
I've never had more fun playing against monored than the game I just played... He plotted 2 slickshots, and gave me the first premature "Good Game" emotes. Then on the following turn he used, as expected, play with fire, lightning bolt, monstrous rage, etc, and swung with 12 and 13 power Slickshots, with me at only 13 health. So I hit one one with Wandering Emperor, leaving me with 3 health. On the next turn I Get Lost-ed the other slickshot. Then he hit me with a Kumano, bringing me down to 2 health, and two turns later he gave me another "Good Game" before hitting his kumano with a demonic ruckus, which I then killed with a Eiganjo. Then on the following turn he gave me ANOTHER "Good Game," while going face with a lightning strike, which I countered. On the following turn I dropped Kaya, and he scooped.
There is no better feeling in the world than destroying an arrogant "GG" player.
(However, I don't know if it makes up for all the other times RDW pounds you into the ground before you can even cast one spell.)
Whats in the historic brawl hell que and how do I avoid it? I don't mind playing jank as I stopped playing brawl months ago.
If you play 5 color good stuff, hell queue. If you play janky ass, believe it or not, hell queue. Just play decks you think are fun whether that be hell queue tier stuff or not.
Realisation for my nearly-finished Brawl deck: saddling [[Calamity, Galloping Inferno]] with [[Primeval Titan]] must go crazy, right?
Sure, or you could saddle it with [[Worldspine Wurm]] and just win.
Edit: and Railway Brawler is pretty good for winning too, since that sends two 20/20 tramplers their way.
Well, shit...
That's definitely a strat
edit: Railway Brawler is even better, I actually have one of those... that guy's quickly becoming one of my favourite cards, might even be my favourite right now

Is the horse still bugged? It's cost me a few games by not doubling the tokens.
Not sure, haven't tried it in a real game yet, still just on my last bit of theorycrafting before I hit the button and build the deck.
Is there something that stops it from doubling the tokens or does it just forget to do it whenever?
Whenever there is more than one potential target to attack, the horse only generates 1 token. So if there is a planeswalker or battle on the field that you could attack, you will get the bug.

Could anyone recommend cards to add/remove to this?
Would prefer to stick to mono/soldiers archetype, even if it's not the best.
Sigardas could probably go and maybe some instants and sorceries swapped, but not sure, looking for advice.

Why aren't Poison decks more popular / viable in Standard?
Because they suck against aggro and midrange, and most of standard is aggro and midrange these days. If we get a meta where control or lifegain dominates, they should become more popular.
I spent almost 8 hours on ChatGPT having it create an entire Marvel MTG set and forgot to save it.
That said...it actually made some scary realistic cards.
Here is a random card it made after I lost the chat and was bored.
Name: Shared Destiny Mana Cost: 3UU Card Type: Sorcery Card Text: Exile the top half of each player's library, rounded up. Then, each player shuffles all cards exiled this way by their opponent into their library.
Flavor Text: "Fate intertwines our destinies, weaving threads of shared fortune."
You: So you agree it's all kicker. ChatGPT: In essence, yes,
I could definitely see an alchemy card doing that, except it would exile the cards face-down and conjure copies into opponents' libraries since cards can never go into anyone else's library, graveyard, or hand (except for a certain un-set card).
That makes sense.
I'm so tired of Deep-Cavern Bat, a card like that having no reason not to play it and being in what's already arguably the best color right now is such a bad combination.
I've bought the new Oko avatar, but when I click on him, he does not say anything, my other avatars always had some dialogues. Is my game bugged or is that intended?
Wow. Breach into Etali into Atraxa. How very....original. And very on power level in unranked play queue. Skip. Bye!
Which first turn cards will you enjoy not seeing again in standard after rotation, besides RDW? Lunarch Veteran for me - almost certainly (mono)white soldiers/angels deck. Seen it too many times.
Everything I hate seeing won't rotate till at least next year, with most rotating in 2026.
