Summary

  • Resident Alien may leave Syfy for NBCUniversal's USA Network, requiring budget cuts.
  • Season 4 is not confirmed, but renewals usually come soon after endings of previous seasons.
  • Main cast expected to return for season 4, with potential for a continuation of the cliffhanger from season 3.

Across its three seasons thus far, Syfy's Resident Alien has delivered the laughs while also raising the stakes with each passing episode, but will the series return for season 4? Debuting in 2021 and based on the eponymous comics by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse, Resident Alien follows an alien (Allen Tudyk) who is sent to destroy Earth. However, upon assuming the identity of a physician, he begins to grapple with the moral dilemma of wiping out a species he grows to care for.

Scoring high marks from critics since the debut season, Resident Alien is largely carried by the stellar performance of Allan Tudyk who excels at the sort of character work required by such an odd premise. Likewise, the humorous writing of the series is both raunchy and clever, and Harry's decision to change his mind about destroying Earth is earned instead of assumed. With the show so able to change its basic premise on a dime, the future of Resident Alien is brighter than ever, though nothing is yet known about the possibility of season 4.

The Show May Move Networks

NBCUniversal apparently plans to keep the series in-house which could see it move to the USA Network

With news regarding the next season in high demand, the latest update suggests that Resident Alien season 4 may leave the Syfy Channel. In an interesting new report, it's been revealed the fourth season of the popular Alan Tudyk-led comedy is likely to happen, but that it probably won't happen at its original home on the Syfy Channel. NBCUniversal apparently plans to keep the series in-house which could see it move to the USA Network. Unfortunately, such a move would require budget cuts.

Another possibility outlined in the report is that Resident Alien could jump to Netflix and become a streaming exclusive. The show has been a popular binge-watch on the streaming juggernaut, and Resident Alien could get the so-called "Netflix bump" if its fourth outing dropped exclusively on streaming. However, at the time of writing, no official decision has been made regarding the fate of season 4.

Resident Alien Season 4 Is Not Confirmed

The Show Has Not Been Renewed Yet

So far, Syfy has not announced that Resident Alien season 3 is the final outing, and such a popular series would likely get a proper send-off from its network. However, since season 4 has not been given the green light yet, it is impossible to say whether Harry and the rest of the denizens of Patience will return. Unfortunately, the show's renewal timeline offers very little clue about its future, since season 2's renewal came at a different time than season 3's. However, the fact that season 3 was renewed before season 2 even ended is a good sign that a renewal could come soon.

Resident Alien season 3 aired its 8th and final episode on April 3, 2024.

Though nothing can be confirmed, it is assumed that the main cast of Resident Alien will reprise their roles if season 4 is renewed. This means Alan Tudyk will once again be leading the show as the extraterrestrial who pretends to be Harry Vanderspeigle, and Sara Tomko will be back as Patience local Asta Twelvetrees. It's unclear if Linda Hamilton will continue to play a prominent role as General McCallister, but she will likely return as well.

Resident Alien Season 4 Story

Will Harry Escape The Greys?

Alan Tudyk as alien Harry in Resident Alien

The ending of Resident Alien season 3 was perhaps the most shocking so far, as Harry's plot to stop the Grey invasion landed him in captivity. After discovering that the moon was actually just a Grey spaceship, Harry attempted to thwart their plans to transform Earth's atmosphere but was captured in the process. Now, season 4 could see the fake Harry (Mantid in disguise) wreaking havoc as the real Harry's allies try to find a way to rescue him from the clutches of the evil Greys.

Furthermore, Mike's discovery that aliens are real will undoubtedly transform his character after years of suspicion, and he might come around to helping Harry's cause. Either way, Resident Alien season 4 will start with Harry in a precarious position, and the destruction of Earth seems more imminent than ever before.
