I like this idea!

For Rachel, as cliche as it is, Don’t Rain On My Parade.

It’s a song about going after what you want no matter what anyone tells you. In Funny Girl it’s Fanny’s desire to be with Nick, but for early Rachel it could be both her relationship with Finn and her Broadway dreams. I think her dealing with the bullying she experiences as well puts an extra layer on it.

Well, they hit the nail on the head with Don't Rain on my Parade for Rachel BARBRA Berry.

I wish I had a surprise/unpredictable song choice, but to me, it was a quintessential glee song and Rachel song.

That scene where Rachel talks about Barbra removing one of the a's in her name was just on my mind the other day and I still goofed xD

that's 100% song!!! like pure Miss Rachel Berry.

Ngl for a non glee one Pretty Isn’t Pretty by Olivia Rodrigo really encapsulates early Rachel for me, Rachel had severe self esteem issues and it was such an important part of her character as she is her own enemy, she had a hinted at ED I mean Emma literally caught her trying to purge, and legit just didn’t like the way she looked to the point she almost got a nose job till Kurt and Puck talked her out of it with a Barbra intervention, as she said in season 1 “I want to be pretty like that Quinn girl” also she legit believed all she had was her voice she needs applause to live.

It always made me kind of mad S3 just forgot that because that type of self esteem problems doesn’t just go away because of having a boyfriend or getting what you want.

In season 3 she still exhibited self-esteem issues she lost confidence causing her  to doubt being Maria even though her auditions were good, choking, upset over Finn campaigning for Prom with Quinn, choking even accepting Finn's purpose was self-esteem/doubt related.

I can agree with that on some level what I’m getting at is more so her body dysmorphia, she legit hated the way she looked why else did she do all the stuff she did in s1-2. Idk I always felt like as the show went on they forgot what made Rachel so special and basically casted her aside to play love internet and to create drama with her than just giving her character more depth like some of the others had like Kurt or Mercedes. I hated so many of her late S3-S5 storylines that I almost hated her even though her character and her pain helped me through some of my own demons through the earlier seasons, it wasn’t until S6 that the spark for her came back in my opinion.

Some of that was just growing up though and accepting how she looked, why she chooses against the nose job. I mean, she still has doubt at times liked questioned if she was sexy when Brody calls her that and says things like "-I know I may not be a like, a typical beauty, and no one's gonna ever pay me to walk the runway on Fashion Week".

I'm currently rewatching Glee at an alarmingly slow pace, which is also why I post so much about it 😂, and I find myself getting a new appreciation for early Rachel.

I always liked her and thought she was hilarious at times especially with her over the top behavior but I had forgotten how great season 1, the season I'm currently on, Rachel could be. Mostly her treatment of Quinn honestly, especially in the hallway scene where Rachel checks on her after noticing how she had missed glee practice and tells her she likes being in glee with Quinn and how glee will still be there for her after she can't be in the cheerios anymore. Quinn saying that if the roles were reversed she would have taken advantage of the situation to be a terror to Rachel and Rachel just wants for her to feel genuinely welcomed in the club despite everything Quinn had done towards her is really big of Rachel.

I do remember some less great moments that are coming up and how they seemed to become more frequent for some reason as the seasons progresses but early Rachel was just the right mix of ambition, selflessness, confidence and vulnerability. I wish we could have kept this Rachel throughout the entire series but I also remember her changing quite a bit in a not always so good direction but then again a lot of the glee characters changed markedly as the writers just decided stuff on a whim. Early Rachel was just so good!

Yess this is what I was trying to get at, Rachel was so special in S1 and even 2 and it felt like the writers just ruined her after that. She felt like a real teen yes she was dramatic at times but she had real problems that teens go through. I didn’t relate to her when she became like Lea in the later seasons because Lea isn’t what teen behavior looks like or her being mostly about her love for Finn.

Also speaking of Quinn, I have the perfect song that represents her so I’m hoping to make it at the beginning of that post. It’s just a song that is Quinn Fabray coded to the max!

Reminder because my english is not great, this is Rachel from early times of the show and not later seasons Rachel who we will get to if people enjoy this and everyone else early versions is done as well. Please save those suggestions for then. The songs can be from anywhere and from anytime so don't feel restricted to glee unless you feel like that does encapsulate them the most. Oh and the most upvoted song will be put in the picture as we go.

Damn, Sam really went through a transformation throughout the show. Sue and Emma stayed the same though haha.

Primadona Girl by Marina & the Diamonds. Kinda surprised no one else has said this yet. It defines her perfectly.
