8month old picky eater?
is anyone else having trouble in the solids department with their LO’s?! my son is 8 months old and we started him off with purées at 4-5 months, and he loved every single one of them. once we started experimenting with flavors and consistencies, complete 180! he doesn’t like/eat anything unless it’s yogurt, fruit, or oatmeal. are we doing something wrong?
I just posted something similar. My daughter is a week shy of 8 months and she's devours everything puree or mashed but once the texture is more solid than something like mashed potatoes she won't take it. I'm assuming shes not ready yet but I feel completely behind when I see babies younger than her eating well. Hopefully there will be more advice/suggestions from other moms. Hang in there!
i feel the same way! i see other babies doing so well and even some eating on their own and it’s just not happening for us.
Same here. We’re not alone ❤️
My little one will be 8 months on the 23rd and we’re in the same boat.
ugh hang in there!!
Awww my daughter shares the same birthday!!
Is it a flavor issue or texture?
My LO will eat some purées but not others, and hates yogurt (except the sugared kind which she does not get). Hates oatmeal, hates banana. Hates fish. Just not a fan of a lot of foods and I’ve been chalking it up to flavor since the textures are inconsistent.
we thought it might be flavor so we tried a little bit of different seasonings and stuff too but nothing. we try the foods ourselves and it tastes good to us so we’re not sure. maybe it’s texture, but he did so well in the beginning. it almost feels like he just wants whatever we’re eating and not his purées. lol
Have you tried one of those little silicone feeders that has the small holes for food to squish out of? My LO has some swallowing issues so he's not on to real solids yet, but his speech therapist said he can have anything we eat as long as it fits in the feeder. He goes crazy for anything we put in there. It still will make it more of a puree consistency since it has to squish through the holes, but will be real food you can offer
Same! Ours loves pretty much all purées, but the thickest consistency she’ll eat is yogurt or oatmeal. She hates mashed banana (but does great when it’s pureed), no avocado, no teething crackers, no berry yogurt melts, no puffs…basically, anything with a real texture or substance to it is a No.
Following for tips!
My LO gagged so hard on a teething cracker so I stopped that immediately. I'm a FTM and every little thing gives me anxiety. I wish she could stay a my boobs forever
FTM, too. When I gave mine one of those little puffs, she tried to swallow it immediately and then choked on it. Ugh! It scares us, too. I agree that breastfeeding is so much easier, but she’s gotta learn somehow…just wish I could help her figure it out!
Second time mom and I am still nervous, and therefore my almost 8 month old baby doesn't like purees. He wants to hold a solid but too scared of blw : ( don't know what to do. My first one ended up being a picky eater : (
May not be the cause but do you use silicone bowls? They make food taste gross after a while
yes, i realized that very late : (
