Something about nightwing powers
wait how can stonemover and some other nightwings make up future telling and mind reading if very obliviously they had nightwings like that in the past???
Like Moonwatcher is one but she supposedly “is the 1st one to something something real prophesy”?
But there’s also dragons like Darkstalker who had them in the past as well, although he had them for like 2,000 years the way people put in in book 5 they are skeptical it happened at all
If this is addressed in later books then that explains a lot, since I only read books 1-5 +spoilers from Reddit and stuff so yea, I’ll be reading the assasin winglet and, if I have time, dragonslayer, but since they shouldn’t spoil anything for book 5 (which I decided just to read 1st before the 2 mentioned) I doubt they have anything either
Also I don’t mind spoilers, Infact this question likely is asking for it.
I feel like I’m rambling
If I remember correctly, afterDarkstalker was defeated , and especially once the NightWings made their home on the volcanic island, new NightWing dragonets were not hatched under moonlight, which is what gives them their powers. Moonwatcher was hatched in the Rainforest, where her egg was exposed to moonlight instead of skies clouded with ash.
Ohhh ok
So it was happening, just volcanic ash blocking any moonlight to make it happen
And the moon they're hatched under effects their powers. If you're born under Perseption, you can read minds. If your born under Prophet(might not be the name of the moon, please correct me if I'm wrong) you can see the future. Imperial is the largest moon and will make your powers stronger. I think that Clearsight was born under Imperial and that's why she's so powerful. Her dad also mentions another dragon a few generations back with similar powers, so maybe it's rarer to be born under Imperial.
Wait the moons have names?
Nice lol
The only time I've found mention of it is during book 15 when we see Moon's memory. It isn't said anywhere if the moons effect the powers, but the names make sense if they do.
They had them, lost them, and either remembered their "glory days" and pretended they still had them (and blamed the volcano for their loss) or straight up forgot (lost to history) how they worked and "pretended" they were real to gain a political advantage over the other tribes.
Ohh ok
So they didn’t make it up, but rather forgot how to get these powers although knowing they existed so they seemed like they’re lying
Kinda
I'm not sure what your asking here, do you mean that the NightWings claim the powers were never real? Because I don't think that was what they were saying although knowledge about powers has been lost.
Kinda I think This part of what i said reiterates my question the best unless I come up with a better way to ask
How can nightwings make up future telling and mind reading if very obliviously they had nightwings like that in the past???
Probably referring to old scrolls with recorded prophecies for future vision and seeing how various tribes acted when pretending to mind read. Typically Nightwings couldn't leave the island until ten years of age so they'd have plenty time to learn how to falsify these powers
Ahh ok
I don't think they made it up, like they weren't pretending to have new powers, I would assume there was myths of NightWings having powers around and they were like 'well lets use that' so either they just went with the rumours or there was actually records of NightWing powers, or both.
Spoilers ahead for Darkstalker Legends and Arc 2
Ahh that actually makes sense
And like a previous comment(s) said, the ash blocked any moonlight from coming still when they moved
Didn’t the smoke from the volcano block out the moon, so they didn’t get any powers?
They knew that they once did have them, but had no idea what caused them to lose the powers because the knowledge of how they worked was lost.
Dragonslayer kinda spoils part of book 5, but I’m not sure it matters…
One book ‘spoils’ the other, but in a good way IMO
Oh, interesting
Well I already read book 5 so I should be good lol
Oh ok well you’re good then, I mean that’s the order they were written in, albeit with like 15 books in between
They still had it. But Moon theorised that Darkstalker scared the NightWings so much that they escaped to the volcano, too afraid of the moons powers to continue living where their dragonets could hatch under full moons and end up like Darkstalker. The volcanic smoke blocks out the full moon, and the NightWings now hatch in caves, hidden from moonlight.
