Riptide (Vance Joy) Confusion

Tutorials

I've been playing bari uke for a year or two now. The first song I learned was Riptide 1. because I love the song and 2. because it was easy. However, I've always been somewhat annoyed that the G is an octave higher than in the actual song. I looked it up today and found out that he also played it on the bari. I'm confused as to how he did it. Do I restring my uke? Retune it? Even still, I don't see how it would make such a dramatic difference for one chord. Am I just stupid??

He doesn't play it on baritone, at least in his live video on the beach. The studio recording is in another key. Try putting a capo on fret 5 then play Em D G and it will sound higher

He plays it on a tenor tuned dGBE. Like a reentrant bari.

interesting. My suggestion will sound higher more like that.
