The other day I recorded an audio recording of Magicicada tredecassini singing at Six Flags St. Louis. In the recording, you can hear the cicada as well as a song they had playing through a speaker. I want to upload this as an observation, but was wondering if this would cause any problems with copyright?

nobody in the iNat community is going to flag your audio for copyright infringement if the subject of your audio clearly is the cicada. could someone sue you for copyright infringement? theoretically, yes, but i bet they would lose in court.

Yeah, I don’t think anyone would think you were passing off the music as yours.
