MARIETTA — Over 350 participants from around Washington County gathered on the field at Don Drumm Stadium Friday to take part in an event held by Marietta City Schools.

“This is Snack and Field Day 2024, Tiger style,” Alison Woods, director of student services for Marietta City Schools, said. “We’re hosting this year. It is a county wide field day for special education and cross-categorical resource rooms across Washington County.”

Activities were set up for participants to take part in that included a water balloon toss, pool noodle tag, sack races, a parachute and sensory and craft stations.

“For the students that don’t really want to participate in the games, to just try to give them a quiet area,” Wood said about the sensory stations.

She said planning began in February and continued through the last couple of months. She said she was grateful the weather cooperated.

“No rain today, it held off, so we did good,” Wood said.

Six different school districts attended the event that included Marietta, Warren, Waterford, Belpre, Ewing and Fort Fryre with volunteers coming from Marietta High School.

“Warren also brought some high school students to help,” Woods said. “It’s a great community outreach in working with the kids. I know sometimes they come and help in the classrooms. They have been wonderful working and helping keep the games going.”

There was also food and treats for those in attendance that included Kona Ice.

“I just want to thank everyone that helped make this happen,” Woods said. “We got sponsors from the community that helped fund the food and the different activities today.”

An awards ceremony was held to conclude the day with to-go bags filled with fidgets, water bottles and other goodies being handed out to all participants.
