A suspect connected to Sunday afternoon's triple homicide in Ridgeland died after a gunfight with Arizona authorities, according to the Ridgeland Police Department.

Ridgeland Police Chief Brian Myers issued a Monday press release stating Ivory James Welch III, the son of one of the victims, developed as the suspect over the course of Ridgeland Police Department's investigation.

Myers said police obtained an arrest warrant, and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force began searching for Welch.

Welch managed to get to Arizona before he was located by Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers, Myers said.

According to Myers, when the Arizona troopers attempted to apprehend Welch, Welch fired at authorities.

Myers said Welch was fatally wounded in the gunfight.

The press release does not state if any officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire.

"This investigation is a great example of how teamwork in law enforcement, as well as a great relationship with our media outlets, affords us swift justice for a grieving family," Myers said in the release. "This horrific event will have a lasting effect on this family, the officers involved in this investigation as well as our brothers in Arizona law enforcement."

On Sunday, which was Mother's Day, the Ridgeland Police Department found three people dead inside a Ridgeland home.

Myers said officers received a call from family members around 3:30 p.m. Sunday regarding the welfare of the occupants at a home in the 7100 block of Old Canton Road.

Upon arrival, Brian said law enforcement found 42-year-old Crystal Lynn Welch, 56-year-old Vicky Renee Welch and 76-year-old Ida Thomas Welch deceased in the living room. The three victims all had been "shot to death in the home."

The suspect, Ivory James Welch III, is the son of Ida.
