A level maths: Differential equations

❔ SUBJECT QUESTION

Could someone please help me solve this? I’ve shown my working in the second slide, but am not sure where I went wrong. The textbook answer is y2 = ln(x2 -2) + c.

it's probably a mistake in the book. given your answer, dy/dx = Ax/√(x^2 - 2) and so the left hand side of the equation is (x^2 - 2) × Ax/√(x^2 - 2) = Ax√(x^2 - 2) and the right hand side is Ax√(x^2 - 2) which fits the equation.

They’ve squared both sides and assume that + C is any “constant” which you’ve represented as A, which is right as it should be multiplicative instead of additive. You’re right don’t worry about it.
