For a few months, it has been said that the Lennon estate will release a massive boxed set of an undated Mind Games album, recorded by John Lennon. The name of John Lennon brings comfort to many. Lennon helped to pioneer Rock music through several stages of essential changes as a member of The Beatles. As a solo performer, he enjoyed a variety of music that included extreme avant-garde sets as well as important albums that left just as strong a legacy behind.
One of them is Mind Games. Released in 1973, Mind Games hit a high chart level hit with the title track. To history, Mind Games is an elegant collection of tracks. Not everyone was enamored of the album. Jon Landau, writing for Rolling Stone magazine called Mind Games “…(Lennon’s) worst writing yet”. The album will be a subjective approach for many, but for me, it was an album of enjoyment, especially in “Mind Games“.
On July 12, the Lennon Estate (with Sean Lennon as producer) will reissue Mind Games as a massive 144-song collection that will explore Mind Games to its fullest with demos, outtakes, and live performance tracks. The box will contain 6CDs and 2BDs, and will offer the original album in newer Stereo and Dolby Atmos mixes. The set will be listed as The Ultimate Collection. A 128-page hard-bound book is packed in to create a “must have” definitive edition of Mind Games for the avid fan of John Lennon and the album itself.
This box will also contain a reproduction of a 1973 marketing poster, postcard-sized reproductions of ad art for the album, and a numbered Citizen of Nutopia ID card. The BD contains two remastered videos for “Mind Games”, and for the “You Are Here” outtake. Mind Games will also be released as 2CD package, DD, and 2LP sets. The 2CD set will offer a 20-page booklet, a Citizen of Nutopia ID Card, the postcard-sized ad reproductions, and a poster. The 2LP will get an 8-page booklet, the 2 postcards, and the poster as well as the Nutopia ID card. Both the 2CD and the 2LP will carry the 2024 remix of the original album and the contents of the Outtakes disc.
