3A Girls Golf Regionals Round Up: 2024 State Qualifiers Secured

AURORA - The 3A girls golf regional championships wrapped up on Tuesday with the fourth of the four regionals completing play. Throughout the four regionals and two days, all eight team champions and 52 individual state championship qualifiers were determined. 

St. Mary's Academy (Region 1), Prospect Ridge (Region 2), Berthoud (Region 3) and Aspen (Region 4) all claimed regional championships, while Colorado Academy, Denver Christian, Montezuma Cortez and Resurrection Christian finished runner-up in its respective regions to claim a team spot in the upcoming state championships. The top-two finishers from Region 4 will be determined on Tuesday. 

In addition, the top-13 individual finishers from each of the regions also clinched their spot in the upcoming state championships.  

The 3A Girls Golf State Championship will be held on Monday and Tuesday, May 20-22 at The Olde Course in Loveland.
    

Region 1

PUEBLO (May 13) - Behind a regional championship from senior Maddy Bante, St. Mary’s Academy captured the 3A Region 1 Girls Golf regional championship Monday at Hollydot Golf Course.
 
Bante turned in a 68 through the round, which turned out to be three strokes better thatn Manitou Springs’ freshman Addison Dorsey, who took second with a 71. Third place went to Salida junior Kyndra Johnson, who carded a 74.
 
Rye junior Emma Garcia took fourth with a 79. One stroke back of that was Colorado Academy freshman Jordan Slutsky, who edged junior teammate Avery Lent out of the top five, as Lent took sixth with an 85. St. Mary’s Academy sophomore Amelia Parrott tied Lent for sixth, also turning in an 85, while Colorado Academy senior Avery Bakes was one stroke back (eighth, 86) and Burlington senior Lauren Hays was one stroke back of that (ninth, 87). Ry’s Olivia Donlon rounded out the top-10 with an 89.
 
St. Mary’s Academy’s score of 245 was tops for the day, while Colorado Academy turned in the second-best score, at 251. Rye was third at 261, followed by Salida in fourth at 264 and Manitou Springs in fifth with a 281.

Region 2

LONE TREE (May 13) - Prospect Ridge had a marvelous showing at the 3A Girls Region 2 Regional Championship at Lone Tree Golf Club in Lone Tree on Monday.

The Miners took home the regional championship (by scoring 44-over 260), while also picking up the individual title - thanks to junior Hope Torres shooting 7-over 79 - and three top-10 finishes. Prospect Ridge’s other top-10 golfers were senior Kate Dinges, who tied for fourth after shooting 17-over 89; senior Leyni Stavola, who shot 20-over 92 to finish in sixth; and sophomore Ye Yoon Choi, who shot 25-over 97 to become the seventh-place finisher.

The second-place team, Denver Christian, also had a great day, as the Thunder placed three golfers in the top 10 and shot 62-over 278. The Thunder’s top-10 individual golfers were freshman Sarah Farmer, finishing in second with a score of 15-over 87; freshman Aspen Murphy, tying for fourth with a score of 17-over 89; and junior Elsie Nydam, placing eighth with a score of 30-over 102.

The third-place team, SkyView Academy, scored 122-over 338 and also had multiple top-10 golfers. The Hawks had junior Cameron Roe, who shot 31-over 103 to place ninth, and sophomore Téa Sunahara, who shot 35-over 107 to place 10th.

The last top-10 individual golfer was Kent Denver junior Josee Lurcott, who shot 16-over 88 to finish in third place.

The fourth-place team was Forge Christian, thanks to scoring 139-over 355. St. Mary’s finished in fifth and scored 166-over 382.

Region 3

STERLING (May 13) - The 3A Girls Region 3 Regional Championship at Sky Ranch Golf Club in Sterling on Monday was incredibly competitive, as three different golfers tied for the individual championship.

Sterling junior Macie Doherty, Timnath freshman CheyAnne Schrick and Berthoud senior Brooklyn Tychsen all tied for first place, shooting 11-over 83.

The Berthoud Spartans were the lone team champions though, thanks to scoring 53-over 216. Alongside Tychsen, the Spartans had two other golfers among the regional’s top 10 individuals – juniors Rosie Hirai and Mason Premer, who tied for ninth after shooting 21-over 93.

Resurrection Christian placed second, close behind Berthoud, shooting 56-over 216, and had two golfers place in the top 10. Sophomores Karina Garcia and Avery Stockslager shot 15-over 87 and 16-over 88, to finish fifth and sixth, respectively.

Severance finished in third, shooting 76-over 216, despite only having one golfer – junior Sophie Morgan, who placed eighth and shot 19-over 91 – rank among the top-10 individuals.

Jefferson Academy posted the fourth-best team score (79-over 216) and the fourth-best individual score. Freshman Paige Danforth finished in fourth place after scoring 14-over 72.

Sterling closes out the top five teams with a score of 84-over 216. Liberty Common senior Corah Clemmer also finished among the top 10 individual golfers, with an 18-over 90 score that placed her seventh.

Region 4

PUEBLO (May 14) - Aspen had a pair Skiers finish first and second, while Montezuma Cortez earned the next three individual spots as the two schools secured its spot in the upcoming state championships. 

Aspen's Lenna Persson fired off a 71 to earn medalist honors, while teammate Brooke O'Sullivan finished second at 82. Montezuma Cortez's trio of Chesnie Patrick (85), Amita Crowley (87) and Afton Unrein (90) rounded out the top five. 

Peak to Peak took the next three finishers as Ava Sommer finished sixth (91), Rihana Bhandari took seventh (92) and Shriya Sharma was eighth (93). In ninth was Gunnison's Aiden Tomlin with a 94, while 10th featured a three-way tie between Peak to Peak's Kaylee Craig, Alamosa's Taybor Wiedeman and Gunnison's Allie Schwartz. The trio each carded a 95.

Among the teams, Aspen finished first with a score of 249, while Montezuma Cortez was second at 262. Peak to Peak took third with a 276, followed by Alamosa (296) and Gunnison (298) in fourth and fifth, respectively.
