Even though it's hot on the ground, it's 30 degrees colder at the top of the Aerial Tramway, so you may need a jacket.
Based on my experience, the zoo is not be great when it's that hot, I've found that the animals hide in the shade and are more lethargic. If you have a zoo in your home town, consider skipping that. The Palm Springs Art Museum is very cool - with some unique art. Free on Thursday afternoons (I think from 4 pm on and they are open that night until 8pm) because the Palm Springs Street Fair/Market (called VillageFest) takes place just a couple short blocks away (you don't even have to move your car) and the kids might enjoy wandering around that. All the shops stay open late too. Plus the 26' tall Forever Marilyn Sculpture is right there (diagonally across the street) which makes a fun photo opt. If you find Kaiser Grille Palm Springs on the map - the street fair takes place right there on S Palm Canyon Dr. Plenty of parking behind the main drag on Belardo plus there are official parking lots.

The Palm Springs Air Museum is also cool and interesting with over 50 actual planes, a Stealth fighter is there, lots of models and interactive displays. For a price, you can also book flights in warbirds.

The high rated Cabot's Pueblo Museum might be fun for the kids to wander - "the structure is hand-made, created from reclaimed and found objects, is four-stories, 5,000 square feet and includes 35 rooms, 150 windows and 65 doors.

Indian Canyons - Palm, Murray and Andreas. Entrance is per person not per car. Easy 1 mile loops at each canyon (and longer hikes too). Find out how Palm Springs got it's name at Palm Canyon. Look out for big horn sheep on the hills/mountains.
