8 Evening and morning to all you early risers and late toilers! 'Tis Tuesday, a meh day for most of us; one day closer to the weekend, but not close enough that we can see it on the horizon.

SanFranPsycho was nice enough to ask yesterday if I were recovered from my bug bite or whatever it was. Well . . . it warn't no bug bite. It's . . . shingles! Yes, the gift that keeps on giving. The Urgent Care doctor took one look, asked if I'd had chickenpox as a kid ("Yes," said I), and nodded. "Shingles. Mild, but that's it."

She prescribed a course of Valtrex, that anti-viral we saw in herpes ads in the early oughts. I'm having trouble getting it from the true idiots at the Walgreens near me, who make a fetish of hiring the stupidest and most arrogant employees in the area. In the meantime, some calamine lotion is going on, and I'm enduring.

Howz about you?

22 ...protest movements can influence the trajectory of new technologies. He points out that pushback against genetically modified organisms was instrumental in turning Europe off of the technology in the 1990s. The same is true of nuclear power. It's not that these movements necessarily had the right ideas, he says, but they prove that popular protests can stymie the march even of technologies that promise low-carbon power or more bountiful crops.

51 >> The new house has a new dishwasher. When was it decided that the controls need

Modern appliances are crap. Give me the old electromechanical controls any day. This new microprocessor controlled shit is just that, shit.

Now, you have one of those fancy microprocessor controlled dishwasher under the counter. Someone makes a mistake, and doesn't put the coffee pot under the coffee maker, and lets coffee water start overlflowing, and running down the counter....

On top of the dishwasher door. It gets inside the touch button sensors on top of the dishwasher door.

One has to take the door apart and dry it out.....

That happened here last year.

Thanks, Fen. According to their automated system, the Rx is supposed to be ready by 11:30 today (which is unconscionable to start with). I can't pick it up until about 5:00. I'll call the auto system again this afternoon, and if it's still not ready, I'll have the Urgent Care dr. send it to my usual CVS in Target. Tomorrow Later today looks like it might be a very interesting day.

In refreshing my YouTube page an hour ago, I noticed a sizable increase in the number of YouTube videos dealing with the IDF operations in Gaza, specifically indicating that The End of Hamas is Near. I also note that the overall feel of these videos is that of something like a "stream-of-conscious dump"; not deceptive, but not quite sufficiently informed.

The claim is that Sinwar has been located, and the IDF is currently moving in troops for a catch.

There's also a claim that Egypt is moving troops to the Gaza Border, as there are tunnels that might allow Hamas operatives to move in to Egypt and perhaps try to engineer a conflict with Israel.

The impression I get is that Sinwar should be captured "soon", perhaps less than 24 hours.

I wonder if the lunchtime news will have any major updates.

84 39 A first world problem here.

The new house has a new dishwasher. When was it decided that the controls need to be on top of the door so that when you close it, you can't see the little flashing light telling you that it's not gonna run until you push another button?

Our Wirlpool dishwasher is about three years old and has that design. All the touch-panel controls are on the top edge of the door. That location is fine for ease of use when closed but when the door is all the way down for loading the controls are aimed right at your calves/ankles and are so easy to activate that even slightly brushing up against the control panel causes button hits which must be cancelled out once you close the doof and realize what’s happened.

It doesn’t take a genius to realize that’s a terrible location for controls and had to have been noticed by the design engineers in testing but was done anyway to save on manufacturing costs, I’m sure of it.

85 Does anyone know of a really narrow rubberized stylus? I've got some that have tips the size of pencil erasers, but I need one much narrower than that--about the size of a tip of a pencil.

I've tried other hard plastic ones and they don't work, and the big ones just aren't precise enough.

The good news I have an extra identical frame which means I am off to Lens Crafter's to blow a few hours today while holding them hostage (the surly employees at my location get more surly when there is no commission involved) until they swap the lens to backup frame. Son of biatch.

104 My news is frustration with AI and service at Amazon and UPS.

I had an Amazon package stuffed with time sensitive gifts sent to me.

UPS shipped and tracked it to the minor city to the south, where the local distribution hub is. Then it was sent to the minor city 30 miles to my east, signed for, and never seen again.

The address on the box was correct for me, and not that other city.

The UPS AI system would not let me talk to a person. The best I could get was being tld to contact Amazon. The Amazon AI would not let me talk to a person. It told me to contact UPS. Even the Chat function at Amazon was AI, with the same answers. A person I finally contacted at Amazon only refunded me the money spent, but would not help. I wasted hours on this.

The lack of violent crime investigations and dropping crime reports, Whitmire has said, likely skewed crime data, meaning the crime rate for the city was actually higher than reported. They had a not so secret code ‘suspended lack of personnel’.

Almost 300,000 violent crimes hidden.

And to think I contributed to their demise by never visiting their restaurant. Not even one. When I lived in the Puget Sound region that was the last place I would go for seafood and now that I live in a desert the last place I would go is a seafood restaurant especially a chain one.

It seems a contributing factor to their problems was a promotion of an unlimited all you can eat shrimp. Even I could see that one was going to be a problem.

"Haachama-chama!"

Her stage name is Akai Haato - literally "Red Heart" - and she was one of the earliest members of Hololive. At the age of 16.

Because she had seniority she had newer members in their mid-twenties formally calling her "Haato-san", so she told them to call her "Haachama" instead, which is about as informal as you can get in Japanese.

And it stuck.
