Duncan of Jordanstone has a good reputation for this sort of Degree.

Dundee is a nice city to live in, contrary to some opinions voiced here. Like any other city it has it's problems associated with lack of funding.

Most people who slag off Dundee are embittered Dundonians who've never lived anywhere else to compare it with.

Or people who once visited Dundee. Or did their degree here for a few years.

It also strikes me as odd, that people who think so little of the city, continue to visit a sub dedicated to the place that they like to deride.

Dundee's on a much smaller scale than Glasgow - it's basically a big town. Getting around it is very easy - and I know the Urban Planning department's very active, as I've been to various conferences & events (as a member of the public) I came to Dundee as a student, nearly 40 years ago. I've lived in Glasgow, Edinburgh, London & Guyana, and chose to move back here. Despite the detractors, I like it! 😁

Yeah if you could guide in more about the urban planning department. Would like to hear more of University of Dundee. Also availability of jobs as a student.

Thanks buddy for the help. I had actually searched about him in past but this link is more accurate to my findings

I know I'm not answering your question, but just want to jump in with something similar to the comment you're responding too.

Glasgow is a much bigger city. You'll have more things to do, more people to see, more job ops and stuff - from part time bar work to business. I don't know how the competition scales compared to Dundee, but you'll just have more of what you get in Dundee material wise.

Culturally, they're a bit different to us Scots who live here, but both places will feel similar to you.

The uni experience will be different though and so will your courses. So hopefully someone can give you feedback on that.

When I was in your shoes, I chose the better uni/course. There's plenty of years to live after a masters.

Dundee over Glasgow for weather and friendliness of the people, Glasgow for size and diversity if you're looking for community. Both have good international communities of students and a reasonable amount of student accommodation.

There are a lot more choices of food and clothing, but a lot more blatant racism and sectarianism in glasgow. You will want to check the football schedule closely if living there and plan your travel carefully on the days "old firm" celtic v rangers matches are on to avoid getting caught up in that utter madness. (very glad to no longer have to deal with that).

Slightly less diversity in Dundee but still a good number of smaller communities and a reasonable amount of different food shops but less clothing stores that cater to non western fashions than Glasgow if that's important to you. Both have a range of religious worship buildings if you're religious.

Dundee is small enough that you can walk or cycle across the city, Glasgow you will need a car or to rely on trains and buses. Trains and subway are fine but if travelling across Glasgow by bus you'll want to look into a "zone card".

Personally I prefer dundee. Did 4yrs in Dundee followed by 3 in Glasgow and have now moved back to Dundee for the last several years.

👍

From what I've heard the Dundee urban planning & architecture department is a lot more art focused, with the ability for more expression. And Glasgow's department is a lot more restricted and engineering focused. As for what cities best, it's down to preference, Glasgow is obviously bigger with more jobs, shops, opportunities but Dundee has still has everything you'd need and is renowned for being a great place for students.

What about data engineering? I’m considering applying for the MSc data engineering course at university of Dundee. I’m from Nigeria

There's a growing community of Nigerians in Stobswell, we even have a Nigerian takeaway.

Name of the place? Sounds like something I would try.

It really depends what you're after. Dundee is small and easy to get around where students make up quite a lot of the population.

Glasgow is a large UK city - small by Indian standards - with lots to do outside of the uni.

Getting somewhere to live used to be atrocious in Glasgow, but I gather it's getting better.

Weather wise Glasgow is much wetter than Dundee, but both will be cold and in winter very dark. You will need vitamin D supplements to avoid becoming deficient. Am not joking. In summer, it is light until easily 10 - 11 at night.

Job wise you will not be allowed to work more than 20 hrs a week on a student visa so will limit you to things like supermarkets, restaurants or bars.

I personally would always prefer Dundee over Glasgow. There are more advantages of a small town.

I took a module with the urban planning department this year - the teaching was shocking. 2 hours of in person teaching a week, rest of the lectures are online (if they’re not cancelled last minute)

Shocking in the sense what and which University. Do they teach technical GIS concepts if opted for Dundee. How was your experience?

University of Glasgow without a doubt. Glasgow is a far better city than Dundee - more going on, more things to do, more nightlife and better scenery just on its doorstep.

Dundee is a dying city - and I’m from Dundee.

neither, st andrews or edinburgh at a push are the only reasons you should come to scotland forZ

Why do you feel so. What is wrong and how was/is your experience

If you like nightlife or live music Glasgow is superior to Edinburgh. Have lived in both. But both are great cities and you can get a cheap bus to either easily enough.
