There was a delightful atmosphere as around forty international students, researchers, and staff from Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg stepped ashore on Vrångö to take part in a guided tour. Vrångö, the southernmost island in the Gothenburg archipelago, offers beautiful sceneries, lovely walking trails, and several bathing opportunities.

The participants were divided into two groups and led along a 3 km trail. Throughout the tour, they were enlightened about the island’s captivating history, including stories of pirates sailing the seas, the impact of the Ice Age on the rock formations, and details about the island’s flora and fauna, among other fascinating topics.

“Unimeet’s visit to Vrångö has been highly appreciated by the participants. We were welcomed and guided by two locals; Håkan Karlsten, CEO of Hotel Kajkanten, and his colleague Tommi, both incredibly knowledgeable about everything worth knowing about Vrångö. The pleasant weather also contributed to the enjoyment of the visit. Several students have mentioned their intentions to revisit the islands now that they have discovered how accessible it is,” says Birgitta Bergerlind, project manager at Unimeet Gothenburg, Gothenburg & Co.

The activity is one of many organized by Unimeet Gothenburg to showcase Gothenburg and all that the destination has to offer. The intention is to showcase the Gothenburg and help international students, researchers, and university staff, explore of the city and, ideally, fostering a desire to remain in Gothenburg after finishing their studies.
