How to watch United v Newcastle

Erik ten Hag's team have played Eddie Howe's side in the Premier League and Carabao Cup already this term, and the upcoming clash between the sides holds a lot of significance.

The Tynesiders sit three points above the Reds in the table, with two games to go. Victory for Erik ten Hag's men on Wednesday would eliminate that deficit, although Newcastle have a superior goal difference, and ensure we can still qualify for European football, depending on what happens on the final day of the league campaign.

TEAM NEWS

Ten Hag's pre-match press conference on Tuesday will cover the latest status of his squad in more depth. Lisandro Martinez, Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes all trained last week but missed the narrow 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, while Erik confirmed that he will not be rushing players back are taking "gambles" on fitness in the run-in.

Amad was withdrawn in the second half of the Gunners clash, but the boss said it was too soon to know whether this was a serious issue. Amad posted on social media on Sunday evening, confirming that he was okay. Mason Mount was ruled out of that match but Erik said it was only a minor issue and could provide an update on our no.7 in his press conference.

Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Tyrell Malacia and Anthony Martial are all out, although the latter was pictured back in training a couple of weeks ago before suffering a setback.

Willy Kambwala made his return as a substitute at the weekend.

Newcastle have welcomed Joelinton and Miguel Almiron back in recent weeks, while Kieran Trippier came off the bench in the Magpies' 1-1 draw with Brighton on Saturday. Callum Wilson was ruled out of the clash with the Seagulls, while Howe confirmed that in-form striker Alexander Isak was not 100 per cent in that game and felt ill. However, he expects both forwards to be available for the trip to M16.

Like United, Newcastle have suffered with injuries all season long, and Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles, Lewis Miley, Joe Willock, and Matt Targett are all out. Fabian Schar has an outside chance of featuring at Old Trafford, while Sandro Tonali is suspended until August.

THE OPPOSITION

Newcastle are also going for the European places in the Premier League table, as the season draws to a close. The Magpies have an outside chance of leapfrogging Tottenham in fifth place, sitting six points behind Spurs with two games to go.

United and Chelsea sit three points below Howe's side, and history is on the Reds' side when it comes to facing Newcastle at Old Trafford. Of the 28 home games we have played against the Magpies, we have lost only one.

The Reds have played Newcastle 178 times ever, in all competitions, winning 91 of these meetings. Of course, the Magpies eliminated us from the Carabao Cup earlier this season at the Theatre of Dreams, but, prior to that, they had not won at our home ground since December 2013.
