FOX Cancels ‘HouseBroken,’ ‘Scavengers Reign’ Moves to Netflix after Max Axe

In some doggie downer news, FOX confirmed that the animated comedy HouseBroken will not return for a third season. The network shared that, while it was pleased with the creative on the series, unfortunately the response from viewers was not as strong as they hoped.

Season 2 of HouseBroken concluded last summer, averaging 1.0 million viewers and a 0.1 L7 rating among Adults 18-49.

Featuring the voices of Lisa Kudrow, Will Forte, Clea DuVall, Nat Faxon, Sharon Horgan, Tony Hale, Sam Richardson and Jason Mantzoukas, HouseBroken follows a group of neighborhood animals as they work through their issues, inside and outside their therapy group. The series is created and executive-produced by Gabrielle Allan, Jennifer Crittenden and Clea DuVall; produced by Kapital Entertainment and FOX Entertainment; animated by Bento Box Entertainment.

HouseBroken is available to stream on Hulu.

Shortly after this announcement, Variety shared word that the highly critically acclaimed animated sci-fi series Scavengers Reign has been canceled by Max. On the bright side, the 12-episode saga will launch non-exclusively on Netflix as of May 31, offering home audiences a second avenue to explore its hostile planet.

Netflix is reportedly considering picking up the show to produce Season 2, hanging on the reception of the first season with its users.

Created by Joseph Bennett and Charles Huettner, based on their hit animated short Scavengers, the surreal science fiction tale follows the remaining crew of a damaged interstellar freighter ship who find themselves stranded on a beautiful, yet unforgiving alien planet. As the survivors struggle to locate their downed ship and missing crewmates, their new home reveals a hostile world allowed to thrive without human interference.

Starring Wunmi Mosaku, Bob Stephenson, Sunita Mani, Ted Travelstead and Alia Shawkat, the series is executive produced by Bennett and Huettner alongside Chris Prynoski from animation studio Titmouse; co-executive producers are Sean Buckelew and James Merrill (Green Street Pictures); Benjy Brooke is supervising director.
