Neil Warnock reacts to David Wagner's Norwich City sacking

Wagner's sacking was confirmed on Friday morning, less than 12 hours after their 4-0 play-off semi-final drubbing by Leeds United at Elland Road. 

Ben Knapper was likely to make the change regardless of how Norwich's season ended. He is attempting to stamp his authority on the club ahead of the new campaign, which is likely to include the release of several out-of-contract players. 

Warnock, who has recently re-entered football as an advisor to the new board at non league Torquay United, was part of Sky Sports' punditry team for the second leg of Southampton's play-off victory over West Brom. 

He was also in the dugout as manager of Huddersfield Town when they were beaten 4-0 by Wagner's City at John Smith's Stadium in August, a day is remembered for the injury to striker Josh Sargent that proved so harmful for the Canaries. 

Asked about his thoughts on Wagner's dismissal, the experienced Warnock felt the German would be relieved after a topsy-turvy campaign before sharing his well-known story of missing out on the Norwich job. 

"I was told that it was going to happen anyhow whether they went up or not - but it's a cruel game football. 

"He will probably be relieved, if I'm honest. When you've had a season like them, and they had such a bad start, but came back so well. Everyone is in the mix and now Norwich has calmed down a bit, it'll be interesting to see what they do next year.

"It's a great club. I went for an interview there and they sent me a 45-page dossier that I had to fill in before I went.

"When I got there, they were all sat around a big old table and one guy said to me 'well, Mr Warnock, do you think our fans would like your style of football?'. I took a deep breath, looked around and I went 'yeah, they'd love to win games'. 

"I knew I wouldn't get the job."
