Agreed, it was a bit refreshing. Plus they're dinosaurs in a primeval world, so Bron / Papa Longneck not knowing is more believable.

This alongside the stone of cold fire were probably the only really good sequels cause they asked serious and mature questions in a way children could understand.

This gets pretty ironic, once you consider that Sauropods in general didn’t have much in the way of parental care. In reality Littlefoot wouldn’t have known his mother, let alone his grandparents.

At least until they're old enough to join the herd

Well, the chances for them to find the herds of their parents would have been minimal, I would say.

They probably joined a different herd, as a strategy to avoid incest

First off, it though it was briefly I’m glad they brought up rooter, even if not by name. Can only imagine the anguish he must of felt then. Looking back on it, I’m a bit surprised littlefoot opened up to him so quickly and the didn’t go “She would’ve been alive if you’d been there“ trope and stretched it out a bit. But I guess it was too late in the movie to go along with that or the tone wouldn’t be right.

I’ve seen a lot of criticism toward bron leaving littlefoot’s mom to find new land such as why not bring her and his grandparents with him. While I do see their point, I can see it from another side. If they were expecting an egg it would’ve probably be more risky if littlefoot’s mom was constantly on the move with child, especially if there were sharpteeth. From the look of the flashback there were other longnecks there aside from grandma and grandpa, so I guess Bron thought she would be a bit safer there.

Also by the time littlefoot was born only his mother and grandparents remained.

ROOTER was his name! Thank you for reminded me of the continuity😭

I still say Shorty deserved to become Sharpteeth food.

He's bratty for attention, he also feels threatened by littlefoot cause he sees Bron as a father figure and is afraid of being abandoned.

Man, the sequels were so much tamer than the original. The kids in the first movie are in nonstop peril from the moment Littlefoot’s mom is murdered till the end. Everything is trying to eat them, they’re falling off of cliffs and getting lost in caves, there’s molten lava and raging rapids and not a second to breathe. I guess the producers took their foot off the gas a little.

Sequels and original are totally diffefent produxts, only names in common.

The second movie had a horrifying eruption, the 7th dealt with topics of existential thinking, the dangers of blind ambition, and dealt with a nuanced villain with a traumatic past.
