‘Sayonara Cowboy’ book launch at DVAA

Posted

NARROWSBURG, NY — The launch for William Yukikazu Fellenberg’s book “Sayonara Cowboy” will be held on Saturday, May 18 at 3 p.m. at the Krause Recital Hall on the second floor of the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA).

“Sayonara Cowboy” is a coming-of-age story, encompassing racism, familial complexities and the search for identity in the aftermath of World War II. It is published by Redhawk Publications.

Fellenberg will read excerpts from his memoir; the reading will be followed by a Q&A session moderated by DVAA director Ariel Shanberg.

Born to an American G.I. and a Yokohama shopgirl, Bill Fellenberg grappled with the legacy of war and the challenges of being caught between two worlds. In Japan, he was scorned as an “ainoko,” a mongrel boy. When he arrived in America and began kindergarten, he’s shunned by his classmates. His mother abandoned the family when Fellenberg was aged eight, and his father put him in the care of grandparents.

Fellenberg, an area writer, began his writing life as a teen reporter for his local weekly, and has contributed to literary magazines over the years.

There is no charge to attend.

The Krause Recital Hall is located at 37 Main St.
