Extension of San Gwann garden inaugurated

LESA has financed a local council project by the San Gwann local council, to extend the Patri Spiteri Donat garden, the government has said.

The funds that the San Gwann local council received form part of the Projects in the Community Scheme, which is financed through funds LESA receives from fines issued, it said. After paying administration expenses, LESA passes the money into a fund to finance projects put forward by local councils, government said. Over the past three years, LESA financed 60 projects, it said.

Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri inaugurated the garden extension, and said that projects in the community vary from environmental and open space projects, to improvements for community security and even clean transport for residents.

"This scheme's success comes as on the one hand LESA is taking part in projects that improve the quality of life and health of people in the community, and on the other hand the local councils know what the needs of their locality are and are putting forward projects from which everyone benefits," he said.

Local Government Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli said that local councils serve to beautify their localities and offer spaces open to the community.
