Catriona MacLean's Reviews > Rob Roy
Rob Roy (Waverley Novels, #4)

Certainly a classic, and one of Scott's great works that proves vital in the foundation of the historic novel. The plot does feel a little drawn out right until the end, although this leaves room for the protagonist, Frank Osbaldistone, to traverse the foreign Scottish landscape and culture, involving the reader in his process of learning.
Overall, it is an excellent portrayal of the divide within early eighteenth-century Scotland, exposing cultural and religious biases within the barren, harsh Highland landscape, and the newly economically thriving Lowlands.
