Summary

  • The Roast of Tom Brady was a hilarious event with no topic off limits, including Deflategate and Spygate scandals.
  • Host Kevin Hart, former coach Bill Belichick, and Brady himself delivered some of the best jokes of the night.
  • The presence of former teammates like Drew Bledsoe and elite comedians like Nikki Glaser made it an iconic roast.

The Roast of Tom Brady on Netflix featured a stellar dais of comedians and former New England Patriots. The three-hour special event streamed live on Netflix on May 5, 2024, and left absolutely nothing on the field, putting the future Hall of Fame Quarterback Tom Brady in the hot seat. Brady and the panel of his former teammates and elite comedians delivered an overall hilarious event full of hard-hitting punchlines and killer cheap shots. The best jokes from The Roast of Tom Brady were made by host Kevin Hart, former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, and even Brady himself.

Virtually no subject at The Roast of Tom Brady was considered off limits, other than a certain sensitive subject regarding Patriots owner Robert Kraft that led to Brady warning Jeff Ross onstage. Even the Patriots' notorious cheating scandals "Deflategate" and "Spygate" were fair game, and Brady made a tongue-in-cheek confession about his involvement in one of them before the night was over. The Roast of Tom Brady was centered on the winningest NFL player ever (7 Super Bowl titles) and the greatest quarterback of all time, instantly becoming one of the greatest roasts of all time in the process.

Patriots Quarterback 1993–2001

Drew Bledsoe and Tom Brady in The Roast of Tom Brady

Drew Bledsoe was the first of Brady's former teammates to take to the podium in The Roast of Tom Brady. After returning to the NFL from a serious injury, Bledsoe left the Patriots and played for the Buffalo Bills and Dallas Cowboys before retiring in 2006.

Moss was one of the most productive receivers on the Patriots during the Brady era, scoring an NFL all-time record 23 touchdowns in 2007 and nearly attaining 1500 receiving yards. Moss was pretty light on the punchlines at The Roast of Tom Brady, but his performance on the playing field speaks for itself.

14 Kim Kardashian

Celebrity

Kim Kardashian in The Roast of Tom Brady

Kim Kardashian was not a part of the onstage dais during The Roast of Tom Brady, but she was called upon to deliver a toast during the first hour of the Netflix special. Patriots Head Coach 2000–2023

Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft in The Roast of Tom Brady

The most highly anticipated guest of the night was Bill Belichick, who coached the New England Patriots from 2000 until 2023. Belichick had garnered a reputation for being no-nonsense, blunt, and stone-faced throughout his head coaching career with the Patriots, during which he won six Super Bowls (2001, 2003, 2004, 2014, 2016, 2018). Belichick was surprisingly loose, funny, and supportive of The Roast of Tom Brady, poking fun at his conflicts with Brady throughout the years and even drinking a shot with Kraft.

Julian Edelman in The Roast of Tom Brady

White has been the President of the UFC since 2001 and the CEO since 2023.

7 Tony Hinchcliffe

Comedian & Podcaster

Tony Hinchcliffe in The Roast of Tom Brady

Tony Hinchcliffe is a stand-up comedian and host of the "Kill Tony" podcast, which releases new episodes every Monday night on YouTube. With "Kill Tony" already having a very roast-like tone and approach, Hinchcliffe was able to rapid-fire jokes at just about every athlete and comedian onstage, providing some of the most unhinged and provocative moments of the night. Hinchcliffe was also a writer on the Comedy Central Roasts of James Franco (2013), Justin Bieber, Rob Lowe, and Bruce Willis.

6 Rob Gronkowski

Patriots Tight End 2010–2018

Rob Gronkowski in The Roast of Tom Brady

Rob Gronkowski is a 4x Super Bowl Champion and is considered one of the best tight ends in NFL history. "Gronk" was the only person who was close to being the butt of as many jokes as Brady was at The Roast of Tom Brady, but also came prepared with plenty of great material of his own. Gronk retired from the NFL in 2018 after the Patriots' sixth Super Bowl victory but came out of retirement when Brady joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. He was a major part of Brady's historic seventh Super Bowl title.

4 Robert Kraft

Principal Owner of the Patriots Since 1994

Robert Kraft in The Roast of Tom Brady

The principal owner of the Patriots, Robert Kraft, gave a toast to Brady while also getting in a few jokes aimed at Bill Belichick and, surprisingly, Vladamir Putin. Reportedly, Kraft gave Putin one of his rings in 2005 as a symbol of respect and the Patriots' owner has yet to get it back. Kraft has been the principal owner of the Patriots since 1994 and also owns the MLS team New England Revolution, which he founded in 1996.

3 Ben Affleck

Actor, Director, Screenwriter

Ben Affleck at The Roast of Tom Brady

Ben Affleck is an Academy Award-winning screenwriter and director, and one of the biggest movie stars in the world. Affleck's also from Boston, which makes his appearance at The Roast of Tom Brady makes a lot of sense on many fronts. Even though Affleck's jokes mostly missed the mark and felt more like an unfiltered ramble than a sharp series of punchlines, Affleck's presence felt right. He recently appeared in the famous "DunKings" Super Bowl commercial alongside Brady and Matt Damon.

2 Peyton Manning

NFL Hall of Fame Quarterback

Peyton Manning in The Roast of Tom Brady

Peyton Manning is a Hall of Fame quarterback who is considered one of the best to ever play the position. Manning and Brady were rivals in the NFL for years, with Manning playing for the Indianapolis Colts from 1998 to 2011 and the Denver Broncos from 2012 to 2015. Manning is a 2x Super Bowl Champion (2006, 2015) and a Super Bowl MVP after he was drafted as the number one overall pick in 1998. Manning and Brady are friends and golf buddies in real life but were fierce competitors on the gridiron. Peyton had one of the best jokes of the night about his younger brother Eli Manning winning two Super Bowls against Brady and the Patriots.

1 Tom Brady

7x Super Bowl Champion

Tom Brady had some of the greatest jokes at his own roast, landing a shocking jab at Drew Bledsoe and also setting the record straight about whether he or Belichick was more responsible for the Patriots dynasty. Brady closed the night out on a high note, proving that he could handle just about every punchline thrown at him and still walk off with a smile. Brady retired from the NFL after a disappointing 8-9 season in 2022 after winning his seventh Super Bowl in 2021. Following The Roast of Tom Brady, he is expected to join the broadcasting team of Fox Sports for the upcoming 2024-25 NFL season.
