AMHERST, Mass. — The Skidmore College women’s tennis team breezed to a shutout, 5-0 victory against Baruch College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday.

The Thoroughbreds ranked No. 32 nationally, will play host to eighth-ranked Amherst in a second-round match on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.

The shutout was a repeat of the 2022 tournament opener.

Skidmore is 13-5 on the year. Baruch, the CUNYAC champion, ends at 12-4.

Beilynn Geiss was a double winner to lead Skidmore. She did not lose a game in either of her matches. In doubles, she and Katherine Almquist worked an 8-0 win at No. 3 over Love/Calvo. At fifth singles, she clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Keila Pagan. Her doubles partner Almquist was on match point one court over when the match was clinched. She also did not drop a game.

Konika Dhull and Grace Truong put the Thoroughbreds ahead 2-0 with an 8-1 win at first doubles. Ella Provost and Katie Wong closed out the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win over Sheludenko/Yadav at No. 2. Coco Prokop went in and cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Maria Calvo at No. 6 singles. It put Skidmore one point away, where Geiss beat Almquist in the race to five.

Katelyn Corpuz was not far behind. She swept the first set and was ahead 4-0 in the second at No. 5.

Dhull endured a pair of early breaks to take the first set over Ava Deguzman in the No. 1 match, 6-4. They were early in the second set when the match ended. Wong was still in the first set in her singles match but had a 5-4 lead over Aishika Yadav.

Skidmore will battle the Mammoths on Saturday for the right to advance to the Regional Final.
