Smartphones are starting to become one of our "needs" rather than "wants", but with the prices of everything going up, not everyone can afford to drop thousands on a device. That's where budget smartphones with sub-RM1,000 price tags comes in: but whether they're any good or not really depends on how you look at it.
In this article, we'll be reviewing OPPO's newest offering in the budget line: the OPPO A60.
Design & Display
The OPPO A60 has a pretty slim and sturdy build, measuring only 7.68mm in thickness and weighing around 186g. It’s both lightweight and comfortable to hold, featuring a right-angled frame and flat back.
The A60 is also rated IP54, making it resistant to splashes and rain, which adds to its durability for everyday use.
The device boasts a 950-nit peak brightness display, making it easily usable even under direct sunlight. This is a significant improvement over OPPO’s previous models in the same sector.
With a 90Hz refresh rate, the OPPO A60 provides a smooth visual experience whether you're scrolling through feeds or watching videos. The phone also includes dual stereo speakers and an Ultra Volume Mode, which enhances the audio clarity and volume, making it excellent for entertainment and media consumption.
Camera
The OPPO A60 is equipped with a versatile camera setup, including a 50MP main camera, a 2MP portrait camera, and an 8MP front camera. Nothing breathtaking, but still works as it should.
It has all the features that you’d expect from a mid-range smartphone. Portrait Mode and AI Retouching enhance photos by adding depth-of-field effects and allowing for real-time adjustments.
This time around, OPPO has also included the Dual-View Video feature, enabling simultaneous recording with front and rear cameras, which is great for content creators.
Performance & Battery
Powered by the Snapdragon 680 chipset and ColorOS 14's Trinity Engine, the OPPO A60 is pretty great on performance for its range with nothing in particular to note. The chipset isn’t the most powerful offering on the market in its range, so simple casual games are fine; more demanding games like Genshin Impact would probably encounter problems.
Storage and RAM options, however, are rather lacking, with only 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. This is enough for everyday tasks if you’re not a heavy smartphone user, but in this day and age, we definitely need more than that.
