KESWICK

Photos by Mike Smith, Mark Carver, and Ben Kemp Page last updated: 2014-07-25

Originally an IBA landlord site, TV channels 1 - 3 entered service on 23rd April 1976, with Channel 4 from May 1984. DSO was on 24th June and 22nd July 2009.

BBC DAB was added on 14th December 2009.

Mike Smith took this shot around 2000.

The site is about a mile east of the town centre. Caldbeck is the parent main station although Keswick receives its programme feed via reception of the Bassenthwaite relay station about 6½ miles away. The 930m summit of Skiddaw prevents direct reception from Caldbeck.

Mark Carver visited in August 2002.

The RBR antenna is the vertical 'trough' aerial with the grey cover directly below the white (and in need of a lick of paint!) GRP antenna housings at the top.

Ben Kemp visited in July 2011.

This shot shows the new DAB antenna at the very top. The mast received a new coat of paint shortly before DSO and is now a lighter shade of grey.

Keswick TV mast overlooking the town. Note the new satellite dish about half way up the mast, this appeared at the same time as the DAB antenna and presumably provides the DAB feed.
