BBC sitcom Motherland is officially getting a spin-off.

Focusing on Lucy Punch's character Amanda, Amandaland sees her forced to downsize and head to South Harlesden after divorcing Johnny .

"With both Manus and Georgie now at secondary school, Amanda has to try and get her head around raising teenagers, dealing with modern motherhood horrors like teenage drinking, fake Instagram accounts and eco anxiety," teased a synopsis.

She must also contend with her omnipresent mother Felicity (reprised by Joanna Lumley), who is completely in denial of her loneliness while continuing to forge a co-dependent relationship "based on backhanded compliments and veiled snipes" about her daughter's new home.

Philippa Dunne will also be returning as Anne, after she "is sucked back into being Amanda's minion to help her navigate the social scene with the other parents at the children's new school".

Amandaland, which has an initial six 30-minute episodes commissioned by the Beeb, is written by Motherland team Holly Walsh, Helen Serafinowicz and Barunka O'Shaughnessy.

BBC's head of comedy Tanya Qureshi shared in a statement: "Motherland continues to be one of the most loved comedies on the BBC, and we're so pleased we are carrying on with the story, taking the characters in a new direction and to a different postcode.

"Lucy, Joanna and Phillipa are three of the funniest comedy actors around and we're thrilled to have them on board".

Producer and Merman co-founder Sharon Horgan added: "Motherland took off in a way that none of us were expecting and it's just so exciting that we get to continue to make this next chapter of parenthood and friendship".

Amandaland will air on BBC One at a later date, while all three series of Motherland are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
