Shazam! star Asher Angel seemingly teased that he might be trading in Billy Batson for Nightwing in the DC Universe franchise. Angel had previously stated that he hoped DC Studios co-president and co-CEO James Gunn would integrate Shazam into said franchise.

Over on X, Angel posted a GIF of the latter hero without any words to go with it. However, as James Gunn hasn't announced any plans for either Nightwing or Shazam, this news should be taken with a grain of salt at this time. On the topic of the World's Mightiest Mortal, Angel touched upon Shazam! Fury of the Gods' failure, commenting that he "[thinks] the superhero genre is a really hard genre," and that he hates when people talk about superhero fatigue.

Zachary Levi Teases Shazam's Potential Return, Pokes Fun at Sean Gunn's DCU Casting

Zachary Levi shares what he envisions for a potential return in the DCU while taking a jab at Sean Gunn's recent casting.

"I don't believe in that stuff," Angel continued. "I think whatever DC or Marvel puts out there, it's gonna resonate, but if it resonates, it resonates. If it doesn't, it doesn't. I think a lot of the time, people put so much pressure on Marvel and DC in that every movie has to be amazing. It's a hard genre, for sure, and I'm just happy I had the opportunity to be involved in that world. It was wish-fulfillment because I always wanted to be a superhero when I was a kid."

Asher Angel Wouldn't Want to Take Over as Shazam Without Zachary Levi

Ironically, in that same interview, Asher professed that he'd "always be open to going back and playing Billy Batson," going on to further note, "I'd never want to take [Shazam actor Zachary Levi's] place because we're in this together. If there are any other characters out there in the future, I'd also be open to that. I'm pretty open! There's a time and a place, and it'll happen."

Batman: Knightfall Nightwing Figure Announced by McFarlane Toys

McFarlane Toys gives fans a first look at a new figure of Nightwing in his costume from the iconic storyline, Batman: Knightfall.

Interestingly, prior to this, Freddy Freeman actor Jack Dylan Grazer avowed that Black Adam is the key to Shazam's return. Grazer conveyed that if Shazam! 3 happens, it will "probably be from a Black Adam thing" and the Man in Black will "invite Shazam into that world."

As for Nightwing, director Chris McKay delved into how much influence Batman had in Dick Grayson's planned film in 2021, remarking at the time that the movie was like one was picking up a Nightwing comic. "You're not guaranteed Batman was going to show up, but he could show up and other people could show up, but again you're dealing with Nightwing and that's what I like about it," he concluded.

Shazam! and Shazam! Fury of the Gods are available to stream on Max.
