The show - which has a 92 per cent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes - is based on the novel of the same name, Tokyo Vice, and stars journalist Jake Adelstein, who moves to Tokyo to work for a major newspaper.

Working closely with Detective Hiroto Katagiri, Jake becomes the paper's first foreign-born journalist.

The detective is part of the vice squad, which means Jake ends up working in all kinds of dark and violent stories, including delving into the Japanese yakuza.

With the second season of the show having just been released, people are admitting to binge-watching the lot.

One wrote: "Binged all of #TokyoVice in a few days now what do I do."

While another said: "Binge watching S2 of Tokyo Vice and man I wanna go to Japan big time... great show btw."

And a third added: "Why did I sacrifice sleep to binge watch Tokyo Vice?"

Meanwhile, a fourth commented: "I’ve been on a binge watch of Tokyo Vice since last evening."

Some people admitted they'd never even realised just how good the show was, with another adding: "Why was no one gonna tell me Tokyo Vice is awesome? Huh?"

And another tweeted: "Tokyo Vice is so amazing man this is the show i NEEDED."

And a third said it was the best show they'd watched 'in a long time'.

Speaking about the first season - and the cliff hanger it ended on - Elgort told The Hollywood Reporter: “Unlike season one, the end of this season [two] – the last bite you get is going to leave you satisfied.

“You’re not going to be like ‘Wait! That’s the end?’

“It doesn’t leave you on any cliffhangers. It doesn’t do that TV thing where it’s just trying to get you ready for the next season. It’s going to leave you satisfied at the end and with a great viewing experience.”

Many of the familiar faces from season one will also be returning for the second instalment of the show.

Also starring in the gritty drama is Ken Watanabe as Hiroto Katagiri, Samantha Porter as Rachel Keller and Show Kasamatsu as Akiro Sato.

You can watch both seasons of Tokyo Vice over on BBC iPlayer now.
