We had the good fortune of connecting with Skinner Myers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Skinner, what makes you happy? Why?
I think what makes me happy is when I’m able to pursue exciting things in life while including friends and family on that journey. I think sharing new experiences with those you love makes life that much more sweeter. Those experiences create a story that you can go back to and relive over and over. It also make me feel good when I see those close to me thriving at life and achieving goals that they have set out for themselves. And it’s extra special if I can have a hand in helping them achieve those goals.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I make dark dramatic and sometimes comedic films that focus on black stories that are often not told via Hollywood. The jounrey to get where I am today was not easy but came from sometimes saying yes when I wasn’t sure where that yes would lead me. I was always a stubborn and determined kid and I believe those attributes followed me into adulthood. I’ve had projects and ideas rejected more than I can count but I’ve never allowed that to stop my pursuit of making stories that matter. My latest film endeavor is one of those stories and it’s something I’m excited about. The film is called Anger Never Dies and it’s about Mack Walker, a retired, black used car salesman, confronts the cruel consequences of pursuing the American dream as he battles to keep his lifelong property only to find out that his most implacable foe is his own family. This project was birthed out of real life family experiences and is something that I think a lot of families will be able to relate to. We also have a killer cast comprising of: Keith David, Rae Dawn Chong, Dermot Mulroney, Tunde Adebimpe, and Nican Robinson.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Lafayette, Colorado, but often venture out to Boulder and Denver. If it was during ski season I would first have breakfast at a place in Lafayette called Morning Glory Cafe. They serve huge dishes of delicious breakfast food. I would then pack up the truck and take them to Eldora where we would spend the day snowboarding. Afterwards stopping in Nederland to have dinner before making the trek home. Throughout the week would hike around the Flatirons, maybe try to conquer a 14’er, go to Denver to visit a few museums, and end the week at a concert at Red Rocks.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My main shoutout is to my wife Azusa Yabe. She has made many sacrifices over the 20 years we’ve been married and those sacrifices have allowed me to pursue my dreams. She’s been there with me through my highs and lows and always has great advice when I’m doubting myself or a certain situation.
