Buckeye Women Finish Third, Men 10th at Big Ten Championships

The Buckeye women were dominant in the sprints, winning the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay on Sunday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State track & field team wrapped up the 2024 Big Ten Outdoor Championships with the women finishing third with 115 points and the men finishing 10th with 49 points.
 
The women's 4x100 relay squad (Fatouma Conde, Nya Bussey, Columba Effiong, Leah Bertrand) secured the Big Ten Championship for the fifth year in a row with a season-best time of 43.44 to rank fifth in program history. Bertrand defended her Big Ten outdoor 100m title by running a season-best 11.16. Conde claimed the Big Ten 200m championship with a PR (22.91) that ranks fifth in program history.
 
FIELD
  • Discus: Faith Bender was the women's runner-up with a season-best throw of 59.27m / 194'5". On the men's side, Tanner Watson finished fifth (57.67m / 189'2") and Carlos Aviles was sixth (56.35m / 184'10").
  • High jump: Shaun Miller Jr. finished as the runner-up by clearing a season-best 2.17m / 7'1.5". Reign Winston rounded out the top-10 (2.08m / 6'9.75").
  • Triple jump: Clarence Foote-Talley finished fourth with a season-best mark of 16.13m / 52'11". Atinuke Shittu led the Buckeye women with a best mark of 12.21m / 40'0.75".  
  • Pole vault: Daniel Drellishak cleared a season-best 4.86m / 15'11.25".
TRACK
  • 200m: The Buckeye women earned a whopping 20 points in the 200m as Conde won, Bertrand was the runner-up (22.98, PR) and Bussey finished seventh (23.61, SB). In the men's 200m, Marcus Brown finished eighth (20.80).
  • 100m: Behind Bertrand's title, Bussey finished fourth (11.29), Conde was seventh (11.43) and Effiong ninth (11.47) as the Buckeyes earned 17 points in the event on the women's side. Brown was eighth (10.57) on the men's side.
  • 4x400m relay: Both the Buckeye women's and men's squad finished as the runner-up. The Buckeye women (Conde, Bryannia Murphy, Effiong, Chanler Robinson) was just 0.01 seconds behind the winner with a season-best time of 3:33.35. The Buckeye men (Noah Carmichael, Mason Louis, Shohaan Singh, Antonio Hanson) also ran a season-best (3:06.60).
  • 800m: Aniya Mosley finished as the runner-up by running a personal-best time (2:04.21) to improve her time in third on the program's all-time leaders list.
  • 400m hurdles: Robinson moved up to fourth in program history with a PR of 57.20 as she was the runner-up.  
  • 400m: Murphy finished third in the women's field (53.14). On the men's side, Louis was fourth (46.95) and Hanson was sixth (47.31).  
  • 5000m: Daniella Santos (16:16.11) and Andrea Kuhn (16:16.58) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Giovanni Copploe led the Buckeye men with a time of 14:49.47.
  • 1500m: Mosley finished fourth on the women's side (4:16.64), while Alex Dediu ran a 4:01.42 on the men's side.

The NCAA East First Round will be hosted by Kentucky, taking place from Wednesday, May 22 through Saturday, May 25.
