Public Transport to Sjoa

Hello,

I'm coming with Ryan Air to Oslo next week and was trying to work out how to get public transport to Sjoa to go whote water rafting. I'm here for three weeks and wondered how easy it is to get to iconic places with public transport. I have considered a car but don't have a credit card. I also wouldn't be using the car everyday. Thank you

Is there any public transport at 22.43pm to Oslo?

Just considering any flight delays as I would be scheduled to land 9pm. I may need to sleep in Oslo for this journey or change my idea to a earlier flight landing in OSL instead.

use entur to search. And all airports have information on connections - https://torp.no/en/to-and-from/

Where do the community recommend I visit on public transport from Sjoa. I see I can go to Andalsnes towards the west. I think I will be based in Otta.

I did want to go to Bergen . Starting at Oslo - Otta - Andalsnes but there are many water crossing and the route maps says to go back to Oslo - so wondering how I can maximise 3 weeks on the Oslo-Andalsnes train route. I love walking and adventure sports but have been warned of bears in May/June. Not sure how big a risk this is to me walking alone.

Thanks,

Åndalsnes would be a good stop on the way to Geiranger, in summer at least, and at least accessible by train, if you return to railway. As previously you are travelling in remote rural areas so there is very little in the way of public transport infrastructure. It may be possible to travel on to Ålesund and take a boat to Geiranger. If entur doesn’t find anything it probably doesn’t exist and there is not much more than we can do

From Ålesund you can probably find long distance buses to Bergen or the Hurtigruten/Havila coastal steamer. For the journey Ålesund to Bergen you can travel without a cabin, getting perhaps some sleep in the lounge, so not so expensive.

You can double check with bus companies Vy and nor-way.

Norway has around 50 wolves which are rarely a problem for visitors. As there are only 50 or so brown bears in Norway visitors are unlikely to see one”

This statement was on Google. I think someone is trying to scare you. You must be really, really unlucky if you have to confront a bear.

https://www.vybuss.com

There is bus from Ålesund to Bergen from 669,-. It takes 9 hours though, but you will see a lot of scenery.

Maybe better with the ferry, where you can move around etc

Wild animals is not an issue in Norway. You are lucky if you spot a bear or woolf, or wolverines or lynx, none of these bother humans. Bloodsucking ticks are common along the coast.

May is hiking season only in the lowlands still snow in higher areas, in June some mountain areas are free of snow and ready for hiking, July is the top hiking season at higher altitude.

Otta is centrally located in the interior, but you may need transport to trailheads. Rondane as you can see from this photo is some distance and uphill

At Otta the clear and white/emerald rivers meet and mix, cool I think. The opaque/emerald river flows from glaciers.

Yes, trains normally have wifi. Charging points depend on the actual train set or even carriage. At least the operator confirms there is wifi on Dovrebanen between Otta and Dombås and also on Raumabanen Dombås-Åndalsnes.
