Boxer Tyson Fury’s father, John Fury, headbutted a member of Oleksandr Usyk’s entourage in a fit of rage, The Guardian reported.
The 59-year-old was later seen with blood gushing from his forehead. The incident took place in the hotel lobby, where Fury and Uskyk were scheduled to meet for Monday’s pre-fight media day.
Later, narrating the incident, John said, "They were disrespecting my son, the best ever heavyweight to wear a pair of boxing gloves. I came out with all that rubbish in my face, trying to be clever. Coming into my space, 'Usyk, Usyk'. So they stepped closer and stepped closer, and at the end of it, I am a warrior; that is what we do. If you come into the space, you are going to get what is coming."
However, he later apologised for his actions; he said: "What matters to me is respect for my son, and he wasn’t showing any of it. He mentioned my son, and that was it, so he had to have it. Bleeding doesn’t bother me; it’s what we live for; we’re fighting people. That’s a regular occurrence for me."
Tyson and Usyk have landed in Saudi Arabia for their Saturday boxing match.
