Apple to release a ‘slimmer’ iPhone in 2025: Report

A new battery technology might help Apple make its iPhone even slimmer.

Just a few weeks after releasing its thinnest product, the iPad Pro 2024, a report now indicates that the company is working on a slimmer iPhone. According to The Information, Apple is currently developing a thin version of its most popular product, the iPhone, which is said to debut in 2025.

The report suggests that the upcoming iPhone is code-named D23. It is likely to be powered by Apple’s next-generation mobile processor dubbed A19.

The slim iPhone is also said to have a 6.6-inch screen, an aluminum frame, and an Android smartphone-like modern-looking punch-hole cutout instead of the large dynamic island on the iPhone 15 series.

The slim iPhone is said to arrive alongside the iPhone 17 series in September 2025. The report also suggests this iPhone might end up being the most expensive model Apple has ever released and could cost more than the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Apple is also said to be developing a new battery technology with a much higher energy density, which means a smaller battery should be able to pack more power, helping the company further reduce the size of the device.

Festive offer

In another development, the company is also said to be planning to drop the iPhone Plus model in favour of a smaller and cheaper option. This could simply mean the iPhone 16 Plus, speculated to launch in September, could be the last big non-Pro iPhone from the company.

According to a report from the International Data Corporation (IDC), in the first quarter of 2024, Samsung had a market share of 20.8 per cent and was crowned the top smartphone brand. Apple is in the second position with a 17.3 per cent market share and shipments going down by 9.6 per cent. According to experts, Samsung has gained momentum in smartphone sales with its AI-infused Galaxy S24 series.

Apple is reportedly planning to release two new iPhones in 2025, including an affordable next-generation iPhone SE and a slimmer iPhone, inspired by the latest iPad Pro with an M4 chip, possibly to help boost sales and offer more choice to users.
