Philadelphia Eagles game-by-game predictions after 2024 NFL schedule release

The Eagles spent the offseason trying to make sure the 1-6 collapse to end last season doesn't happen again.

Sure, the Eagles finished with an 11-6 record and a third straight playoff berth. But so much more was expected after the Eagles were coming off a Super Bowl berth in the 2022 season.

So the Eagles made several changes, beginning with the coaching staff underneath head coach Nick Sirianni. It extended to free agent signings like running back Saquon Barkley to trading away their sack leader in Haason Reddick. And then in the draft, the Eagles used their first two picks on cornerbacks in Quinyon Mitchell in the first round and Cooper DeJean in the second.

Add in retirements of Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox, and the Eagles team that takes the field in 2024 will look very different, especially on defense.

And yet, this Eagles team might be even more talented than last year's version. Here, then, is how the 2024 season will play out.

EAGLES 2024 SCHEDULE: This long Cowboys streak ends, lots of travel miles

TICKET TIME: How to buy Philadelphia Eagles tickets following 2024 NFL schedule reveal

Week 1: vs Green Bay Packers (in Brazil)

Friday, Sept. 6, 8:15 p.m.

NFL fans in Brazil will be treated to a great matchup of two storied teams with QBs both drafted in 2020 under similar circumstances in Jalen Hurts and Packers QB Jordan Love. Hurts is more accomplished and has a better team around him. Delaware football fans will have to travel to Brazil to see Middletown native MarShawn Lloyd, a running back, play his first NFL game.

Result: Win, 1-0

Week 2: vs. Atlanta Falcons

Monday, Sept. 16, 8:15 p.m.

For the third year in a row, the Eagles will face Kirk Cousins in a Week 2 prime time matchup at home. The past two years, Cousins was the Vikings quarterback and the Eagles won handily. This time, Cousins doesn't have Justin Jefferson to throw to.

Result: Win, 2-0

Week 3: at New Orleans Saints

Sunday, Sept. 22, 1 p.m.

On paper, the Eagles should beat the Saints with Derek Carr at quarterback. But the Saints crowd at the Mercedes Benz Superdome is tough, and the Eagles are on a short week. The Eagles last played in New Orleans in 2018 and they lost twice − a 48-7 regular-season debacle and a 20-14 playoff loss.

Result: Loss, 2-1

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin (14) catches a pass for a touchdown against the New Orleans Saints in the fourth quarter at Raymond James Stadium Dec. 31, 2023.

Week 4: at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Sunday, Sept. 29, 1 p.m.

This will mark the fourth straight time the two teams are playing in Tampa. That includes the Eagles' 32-9 playoff loss last January. But the mid-afternoon heat, not to mention Mike Evans and Delaware native Chris Godwin, will be a big factor.

Result: Loss, 2-2

Week 5: BYE

Week 6: vs. Cleveland Browns

Sunday, Oct. 13, 1 p.m.

By this point, the Browns might be wishing they held on to University of Delaware's Joe Flacco. That's because Deshaun Watson will be starting his third season with the Browns, and he has played in only six games in each of his first two seasons. The Eagles should have just enough to overcome Myles Garrett and the Browns' defense.

Result: Win, 3-2

New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley (26) heads to the goal line in the second quarter past Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Nolan Smith (3), Sunday, January 7, 2024.

Week 7: at New York Giants

Sunday, Oct. 20, 1 p.m.

This will be known as the Saquon Barkley game, as it represents his return to MetLife Stadium, where Barkley spent his first six seasons. No doubt, Barkley will want to show his ex-teammates what they're missing, and the Eagles will want revenge for their 27-10 loss last season. Both will happen.

Result: Win, 4-2

Week 8: at Cincinnati Bengals

Sunday, Oct. 27, 4:25 p.m.

If you like offense, this game is for you. The Bengals with receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins are one of the few teams that can compare to the Eagles' tandem of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Still, the Eagles have just a little bit more firepower with Barkley. And that will be enough in a high-scoring affair.

Result: Win, 5-2

Jacksonville Jaguars Head Coach Doug Pederson on the field during the May 10 rookie minicamp session. The Jacksonville Jaguars held their first day of rookie minicamp inside the covered field at the Jaguars performance facility in Jacksonville, Fla.

Week 9: vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Sunday, Nov. 3, 8:20 p.m.

I'm not sure why NBC chose this game for a Sunday night matchup. The Jags do have QB Trevor Lawrence, but he has yet to reach that superstar level, and they lost top receiver Calvin Ridley in free agency. It won't be a happy second homecoming for ex-Eagles coach Doug Pederson.

Result: Win, 6-2

Week 10: at Dallas Cowboys

Sunday, Nov. 10, 4:25 p.m.

It appears as if the Cowboys are taking a step back. They didn't have the salary cap space to adequately replace the likes of Tyron Smith and Tony Pollard. Still, they do have Micah Parsons, and the Eagles haven't won in Jerry World since 2017.

Result: Loss, 6-3

Week 11: vs. Washington Commanders

Thursday, Nov. 14, 8:15 p.m.

It's almost a certainty that the Eagles will face rookie QB Jayden Daniels, the No. 2 overall pick, not to mention Zach Ertz playing in his first game in Philly since he was traded to Arizona in 2021 (he had been released before the Cardinals played in Philly last December). Dover native Jordan Magee should be at linebacker for Washington.

Result: Win, 7-3

Week 12: at Los Angeles Rams

Sunday, Nov. 24, 8:20 p.m.

It will be strange not seeing Eagles center Jason Kelce trying to handle Rams star Aaron Donald as both players retired after last season. Donald's absence will make a huge difference, enabling the Eagles to overcome L.A.'s strong offense led by Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp and Puca Nacua.

Result: Win, 8-3

Baltimore's Lamar Jackson (8) throws downfield Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020, at Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles were defeated by the Baltimore Ravens 30-28.
Baltimore's Lamar Jackson (8) throws downfield Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020, at Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles were defeated by the Baltimore Ravens 30-28.

Week 13: at Baltimore Ravens

Sunday, Dec. 1, 4:25 p.m.

It's hard to believe that Hurts and Baltimore's Lamar Jackson haven't met in a regular-season game before. Carson Wentz was the Eagles' starter when the two teams last met in 2020. It will be fun to watch, but the Ravens' defense will steal the show.

Result: Loss, 8-4

Week 14: vs. Carolina Panthers

Sunday, Dec. 8, 1 p.m.

It was a tough rookie year for QB Bryce Young, the No. 1 overall pick in 2023, not to mention ex-Eagles running back Miles Sanders, who lost his job last year. And that was before the Panthers drafted Jonathon Brooks. Either way, the Panthers are no match.

Result: Win, 9-4

Kenny Pickett, shown throwing a pass for his former team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, during the 2023 season. The Eagles traded for Pickett on March 15, 2024.
Kenny Pickett, shown throwing a pass for his former team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, during the 2023 season. The Eagles traded for Pickett on March 15, 2024.

Week 15: vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Sunday, Dec. 15, 4:25 p.m.

Will Russell Wilson still be the Steelers' QB? Or will it be Justin Fields? Either way, it's not enough for Pittsburgh. The ultimate insult for the Steelers would be if Kenny Pickett mopped up for the Eagles.

Result: Win, 10-4.

Week 16: at Washington Commanders

Sunday, Dec. 22, 1 p.m.

By this point, the Eagles should be pushing for the playoffs while the Commanders will be playing for pride.

Result: Win, 11-4

Week 17: vs. Dallas Cowboys

Sunday, Dec. 29, 4:25 p.m.

The Eagles should have the NFC East wrapped up before this game, so there's a good chance that some players will be resting. The Cowboys will be fighting for a wildcard spot. They'll have more to play for.

Result: Loss, 11-5

Week 18: vs. New York Giants

Weekend of Jan. 4-5, TBD

The Giants should be finishing out the Daniel Jones era. If the Giants D-line, led by Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Dexter Lawrence, is in the game, the Eagles will have trouble, but not enough to lose.

Result: Win, 12-5
