We are thrilled to announce that Mr Charlesworth will be the new Head of Bury Grammar School (BGS) Primary Division from September 2024. Mr Charlesworth is currently our Deputy Head (Academic) and an experienced leader and teacher with 17 years’ experience in independent primary education. 

Mr Charlesworth has a a passion for educational excellence and is set to lead our Primary Division into an exciting new chapter of growth and achievement. Mr Charlesworth is committed to ensuring that every pupil reaches their full potential and receives the support they need to thrive both academically and pastorally. Innovative teaching practices, a superb curriculum, a tremendous extra-curricular programme, a commitment to well-being and to continuing to develop staff will be the areas of focus within his leadership. 

 Mr Charlesworth told us, 

"I am truly honoured to be the new Head of BGS Primary Division from September 2024, and I am excited to work alongside our dedicated staff, pupils, and parents, continuing to ensure every pupil will flourish academically, socially, and pastorally. Together, we will aim to inspire a lifelong love of learning, ensuring our pupils reach their full potential and have some fun along the way too! With such a well-established team in place and strong foundations underpinning educational provision, I am really looking forward to a positive future for our pupils. It will be a privilege to lead the Primary Division and play a role in whole school 3-18 development.” 

As we welcome Mr Charlesworth to his new role, we also want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to Mrs Howard, BGS’s very first Primary Principal. Under her exemplary leadership, our Primary Division has flourished, and many pupils have benefited from her guidance and dedication. Mrs Howard will leave behind a legacy of excellence that will continue to inspire us all as she retires at the end of this academic year. 

As we look ahead to the future of the Bury Grammar School Primary Division, we know that with the support of the whole school - the pupils, teachers, support staff, Governors, parents, and community - we can look forward to a very bright future for our Primary Division.
