For the first time, an official Balliol team participated in the Oxford Town and Gown 10k run on 12 May 2024.

Under the captainship of Amanda Tilley, Finance Bursar, a total of 43 Balliol members signed up for the race. The participants consisted of staff, students, and Fellows of all ages and levels of running experience, representing the breadth of Balliol’s community.

Despite facing the sweltering heat of the hottest day of the year so far, the Balliol team displayed resilience and determination, successfully crossing the finish line in the University Parks. Post-race, participants and supporters gathered at the Buttery for some well-deserved tea and pastries.

Reflecting on this occasion, Amanda remarked: ‘It was fantastic to see so many participants from across Balliol’s community. Everyone did brilliantly even though we faced challenging running conditions.’

The Oxford Town and Gown was established in 1982 by local runners as a fun run to raise funds for muscular dystrophy. All profits from the race go to Muscular Dystrophy UK (MDUK).
