George Gipp’s Legacy in ‘Knute Rockne, All American’

George Gipp died only weeks after his Notre Dame football squad defeated Northwestern in an important game. He was later the subject of Knute Rockne’s famous “Win just one for the Gipper” speech. In the movie Knute Rockne, All American (1940) Gipp was portrayed by future President Ronald Reagan.
