Every Look Kim Kardashian Has Worn to the Met Gala

Kim Kardashian made her Met Gala debut in 2013 with then-fiancé Kanye West. At the time, she was pregnant with their first child, daughter North West.

Kardashian made a splash, but not necessarily in the best way: Her floral gown and matching gloves and heels by West's close friend Riccardo Tisci earned rightful comparisons to couches found in every millennial and Gen X parents' or grandparents' home. While hilarious, the memes hurt her feelings. She later told Vogue, "I was crying the whole way home because I just couldn't believe it."

At her second Met Gala ever in 2014, Kim Kardashian kept it classy and simple in a strapless dark teal Lanvin gown by Alber Elbaz with a black sash and T-strap heels. The theme was "Charles James: Beyond Fashion," and her gown was actually a last-minute change: She previously said it was originally made from leather material and she swapped it to satin at the last minute.

Kim Kardashian finally made her mark at the 2015 Met Gala, rocking a sheer, bedazzled Peter Dundas gown with a white feather train. Kardashian said that her inspiration was Cher from the first-ever Met Gala in 1974.

Kim Kardashian was on theme at the 2016 Met Gala, "Manus x Machina." She described the custom Balmain gown as akin to a "blingy, sexy robot."

Kim Kardashian sported a simple white Vivienne Westwood corset gown to the 2017 Met Gala. It was one of her first major red carpet appearances after her harrowing robbery in Paris, which may be why she eschewed any diamonds at all for the evening.

Kim Kardashian once more skipped glitzy jewels for the Met Gala in 2018, but she didn't need them: Her sparkling gold custom chainmail Versace gown, embroidered with two crosses for the "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination" theme, did the job. Accessorizing with simple gold cross chains and honey brown contacts, Kardashian's style was simultaneously dazzling and understated.

Kim Kardashian wore a custom Thierry Mugler dress with a very snug corset to the 2019 Met Gala, explaining that the designer's vision was of "this California girl stepping out of the ocean, wet, dripping." She told The Wall Street Journal that she had to practice wearing the "insane" corset, which she said left indentations on her skin and made it difficult for her to breathe.

Kim Kardashian took head-to-toe black literally at the 2021 Met Gala. The Balenciaga look featured a long-sleeve turtleneck bodysuit, a T-shirt dress with train, boots, gloves and a mask.

A source told PEOPLE that Kardashian was set on making a statement, calling the look a "new subculture."

"No logo, no face, but everyone knows it's her," the insider said. "Kanye gave her the courage to push creativity and people's imagination through art. It's the ultimate confidence."

Kim Kardashian famously wore the late Marilyn Monroe's gown to the 2022 Met Gala—and may or may not have damaged it. Kardashian boasted that she lost 16 pounds within three weeks to fit in the dress, which Monroe wore to serenade then-President John F. Kennedy for his birthday in 1962.

At the 2023 Met Gala tribute to the late Karl Lagerfeld, Kim Kardashian wore a Schiaparelli corset gown covered in pearls with a cream train.

“What is more Karl? The iconic Chanel pearls is what I always thought of so we wanted to just be dripping in pearls," she told Vogue, adding that daughter North picked up pearls that fell off on the way to the event.

Kardashian showed up to the latest Met Gala in a Maison Margiela corset and a John Galliano cardigan. Some critics slammed the look for setting an impossible (and dangerous) beauty standard.
