Veteran Actor Yoo Jae Myung to Join Kim Soo Hyun in His Next K-drama Knock Off

Oh I love this new addition so much! K-ent is reporting that veteran actor Yoo Jae Myung has joined the cast of K-drama Knock Off (I’ve also seen it anglicized as Nock Off) which has already announced Kim Soo Hyun as the male lead. It’s a black comedy about the counterfeit market hence the title, and for Kim Soo Hyun this is definitely yet another genre switch for him. Yoo Jae Hyung has dozens of movies and dramas under his belt and if you don’t know his name you will recognize his face by his multiple and varied works. My recent personal fave was his short but utterly memorable turn in the first four episodes of Vincenzo acting against Song Joong Ki. He was the heart and soul of that drama cast of characters until his departure and then be became the rallying call setting into motion the rest of the drama and the evolution of the leads.

Veteran Actor Yoo Jae Myung to Join Kim Soo Hyun in His Next K-drama Knock Off — 23 Comments

  1. I hope this project works out for Kim Soohyun. The premise sounds interesting but the writer’s past works dont have a lot of promise.

The expectations have quadrapuled after QoT

  2. I really liked him in Stranger (Secret Forest) 1 and in Itaewon Class as a villain. His 4 episodes in Vincenzo were great too. He had such a great chemistry with SJK.

It will be nice to watch him with KSH.

  3. If theres one thing I trust, its KSHs ability to pick scripts that bring in the viewers. He worked with some rookieish writers in DH, MoonSun, it’s ok and came out on top so Im very excited and not at all concerned about how this will turn out really. The PD too is so good.

The rumor from the industry is that the premise is very interesting. It was mention in an article. Rumor is that its set during the late 90s to early 2000s during the IMF explosion and his character is a scammer. I cant believe he is doing a drama so soon but yay!! Period drama sort of and a genre switch to boot. Theres a lot of fans hoping it’s not only OTT and also on tv.

Looooveee Yoo Jaemyung. It will be another acting party with Kim Sieun too!

    • I believe it mainly bacause his acting ability too, he can make unlikable character (coward, etc) became likable.

      • Yes very right. Hyunwoo could have been so unlikable but KSH always manages to ground characters and make them human. I said it before but he doesnt ever act characters, he becomes them.

    • Oh wow it’s set it the 1990’s era? I had no idea. That makes it even more interesting, wow! Is that confirmed?

It does sound more an OTT exclusive, but I’m also hoping it’s on a network instead and Netflix. Former because I like the weekly live watching format and latter because Netflix is the most available platform for the majority of viewers.

      • @Butterfly – not confirmed officially but I think its for sure. There are lots of industry rumors going around due to KSH being very hot commodity rn. I also hope its on tv, he never worked with JTBC and this type of drama is perfect for them!

@Amy – haha yes same era. Period dramas are popular recently and well done too with 1958 being latest. I am till scarred by 2521 but hope this one has a better ending hahah

      • @Mel

It sounds even better so thanks for sharing this info! I’m hearing the shoot starts this summer so after his fanmeets end so hopefully that means the platforms will be announced soon. JTBC would be ideal, but tbh any terrestrial or cable platform is better than ott exclusive in my books.

  4. I’m still holding out hope that Lee Hyun Woo is somehow involved in this drama. I just want that reunion so bad. Other than that, this is looking like a powerhouse cast already! I’m so excited already and it hasn’t even been confirmed yet.

  5. I loved YJM in Itaewon Class and Stranger. He’s obviously amazing and it is already a strong cast. KSH dipped his toes on black comedy for a bit during the first half of QoT and killed it. I hope it comes out this year or early next year. I hate how long productions take these days. Eager to see him back on screen.

  6. The synopsis itself is super interesting. I have never watched a drama on counterfeit/fake goods and curious on the genre too. So glad ksh is in it. I am seated.

  7. That photo of Kim Soohyun is so sexy I cant concentrate on the topic LOLLL

No but jokes aside this is exciting casting news. No one can justifiably accuse him of ever doing the same genre in a row. Youth musical > Saguek > Romcom fantasy > Comedy/variety > Healing > Dark > Romcom melo > black comedy.

He mixes it up real well. Hopefully Sageuk is next on the plate. I am in episode 13 of Moon Embracing Sun rewatch & again shocked at his sheer talent he has at such a young age. Salivating at the prospect of KSH in his 30s in a sageuk so I will keep my fingers & toes crossed it happens next year.

    • At the start I was a bit disappointed he decided to stay in modern world and not do a sageuk… everyone is willing him to please take on a historical. But now that we know knock off is period, I feel more assured about his choice. Hope he can do romance sageuk next year too!

  8. Pumped for Knock off. Love the genre change for KSH; a departure from romance after doing an epic one. Since it’s pre produced, he must already have the draft script for the whole thing and could not pass on despite the planned Asian fanmeet tour. It must be a fun script.

  9. KSH’s black comedy part in QoT is one of the biggest failures of the script writing. LOL. So far, I haven’s seen successful acting from KSH in black comedy YET. He’s not even good at comedy, e.g., Secretly, Greatly. His comedic moments came in all too forced. But kudos for him to take a big shot at a black comedy. I do think he has potential to nail it if the script is smartly written like Vincezo where SJK did impress me a lot.

I still think KSH is best at more solemn roles like Lee Hwon in Moon Embracing the Sun or Song Sam-dong in Dream High, both of which showcased KSH’s best acting talent so far. Although I hope he takes another sageuk, a black comedy is also a good career choice for him to get more versatile.

  10. YJM is one of the best antagonists in my list. I just watched and finished Itaewon Class while QoT was airing. Viewers can be sure of an anchor in the acting department won’t go wrong if he’s in the main cast. For these popular K actors like Park Seo Joon, Song Joong Ki, and Kim Soo Hyun etc, they have an edge in their dramas over others with very strong supporting cast to make their works more interesting. Sometimes I wonder without a strong cast, if these MLs can still be so convincing and appealing to viewers. If they can, then they are definitely in the leagues of great actors. Otherwise, they are just popular and good, but not great. One great actor I have in mind is Shin Ha-kyun in Beyond Evil, for example. Only the acting on the level of SHK deserves Daesang IMO. Otherwise, the award can’t be taken seriously. LOL.

  11. Big fan of YJM in many of his movie roles and obv big fan of KSH too… He was hilarious in the first half of queen of tears and looks like he enjoyed filming that part to do more fully fledged drama on that genre… big yay

  12. Such a unique premise and particularly resonates in today’s world where fake luxury goods are rampant worldwide. Considering its dark comedy, the drama will hopefully not take itself too seriously either. Its been while since I got excited starting from the initial synopsis

I only watched YJM in Itaewon as the baddie where he was amazingg. KSH always delivers every single time. I am invested in this premise fingers crossed official details are released soon

  13. I LOVE Yoo Jae Myung. He is so good in everything. It was only a short guest role but I was hoping he would get some nominations for Vincenzo. He made such a huge impact on the drama in just 4 episodes.

I’m looking forward to this project. It sounds like a lot of fun and set during a very interesting time period and era in commerce. Sounds like a slightly different role for KSH too than his recent melodrama roles so he can save his tear ducts for once!

  14. Let’s see how this goes. KSH fell flat with his comedy in QoT so this will be a good challenge for him to prove that he can be good at comedy too without being OTT.
