A PDS (particularly dangerous situation) Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for a large portion of Kansas through 10 PM. This is where we expect to see the highest threat for severe storms. An additional Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in place for northwest Kansas through 10 PM Sunday. A new Severe Thunderstorm Watch was just issued for eastern Kansas until 2 AM Monday.

A Moderate Risk has been circled for central Kansas, with the highest threat for severe storms creating a bullseye in the middle of the state.

As these storms begin to take on a more linear shape, winds will become the greatest concern. Strong straight line winds from 80 to 100 MPH will be possible as the line of storms begins to bow, or take on a more curved structure. Damaging wind gusts will quickly propel this system across the Sunflower State. Within the line of storms a few QLCS, or quasi-linear convective system, tornadoes will be possible. These type of tornadoes spin up very quickly without a lot of lead time.

Significant winds damage will be possible as the line tracks through the state. Severe thunderstorm warnings should be taken seriously today as wind gusts will be intense. Large hail up to the size of softballs will also be a concern.

The line will approach the Wichita metro between 8 and 10 PM. Storms will maintain their strength as they push east. We will eventually see this line push out of the KSN viewing area after midnight tonight.

A period of dry time will carry us through the early morning hours but another round of showers and storms can be expected across northern Kansas come tomorrow. Those along and north of the I-70 corridor could see strong storms producing all forms of severe weather.

We cannot take a breath just yet. Storm threats continue into Tuesday. Storms will fire up along I-135 and then quickly track east. An Enhanced Risk for severe weather has been issued for portions of the far northeast concern of the region. Our severe threat should quickly track into Missouri through the later part of the evening.

Behind that wave of storms, we settle back towards our seasonal average in the 70s for the middle of the week with a much more mild pattern for the rest of the workweek.
