The richest owners in Italian football have been revealed as Como's stunning wealth laid bare

The fairytale story has some big money behind it.

The richest owners in Italian football have been revealed, but nobody expected Como to be so high on the list.

Como made history last week when they secured promotion to Serie A after 21 years outside the top flight, during which time they went bankrupt twice.

The club based on the shore of Lake Como has enjoyed an astonishing revival in recent years, rising from the fourth tier to the first with three promotions in six years.

It's been a fairytale journey for Como fans, a club partly owned by former Premier League stars Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas, and whose chief executive is former Chelsea midfielder Dennis Wise.

That said, their return to Serie A might not have been possible without the financial backing of majority owners Robert Budi Hartono and Michael Hartono.

The brothers - who own the Djarum Group that bought the club in 2019 made their fortune - have a combined net worth of $48 billion according to Forbes, making them the richest owners in Italian football.

Second on the list is Rocco Commisso, the owner of Fiorentina who has a new worth of $8bn.

La Viola have reached the final of the UEFA Europa Conference League for two years in a row, and will be looking to make up for last season's painful defeat to West Ham.

AS Roma's American owner Dan Friedkin has a net worth of $6.4bn, while Bologna's owners - the Saputo family - boast a wealth of $4.3bn.

Next on the list is the Berlusconi family, who own Monza. Relatives of Silvio - the former prime minister of Italy and ex-owner of AC Milan, who died last year, are worth a reported $4.2bn.

The owners of Sassuolo, Juventus Atalanta and Cremonese. make up the rest of the top 10.

Surprisingly, the owners of AC Milan, Napoli and Lazio are not among the top 10.
